#Illapa is the Inca God of Thunder and Rain. He doubled as a war god and held divine influence over the weather. At his worst, there was drought, famine, torrential rain and floods. At his best, Illapa nourished the earth and crucial farmland across the #Inca Empire. He is depicted as an imposing man in brilliant garments of gold and precious stones.

On 26th July 1533, the Spanish killed the Inca emperor Atahualpa by garrotting him. They threw the body in an unmarked grave, which devastated the Incas as the emperor needed to be mummified in order for his soul to pass over into the next stage of life and for his son Topatauchi to succeed him as emperor.
NB: Some historians state that the date was actually 28.8.1533.

In November 2022 it was reported that "the mummified and perfectly preserved remains of an Inca child, found on January 8, 1985, by a group of mountaineers on Mount Aconcagua, will be returned to the mountain."
I can't find out if this actually took place, though...
