Ingo Paschke<p>This week in the lab: A Marantz CD 73, an early CD player from 1983. Symptoms: A loud whine coming from the back with erratic behaviour, flickering lights. Jeff Smith<p>Swapped the very old Magnepan MGIIIa speakers back in. They are over 30 years old and though I bought some decent high end “box” speakers a while back I simply miss the sound of the Maggies. One of the mid/bass panels needs to have some adhesive work/repair as it will occasionally buzz, but nothing compares to the immersive sound, huge soundstage and quickness of these big panels and the ribbon tweeters. Particularly for jazz when recorded well.</p><p><a href="https://mastodon.nz/tags/HiFi" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>HiFi</span></a> <a href="https://mastodon.nz/tags/Magneplanar" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>Magneplanar</span></a> <a href="https://mastodon.nz/tags/jazz" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>jazz</span></a></p>

My name is Gordo (not really)<p>Just picked up a Kenwood KR-6400 (with Real Simulated Woodgrain™ side panels!) at Value Village for $13.99! Turns on, but just hooked it up and got no output. I imagine it just needs a new fuse (or fuses), but either way, not a bad find at all. I've been wanting to start making up for lost time and brushing up my electronics chops, so a mid-70s stereo is probably a decent place to start.</p><p>It's not in immaculate condition, but I'm not really bothered by that. Still quite a handsome unit, and definitely of greater provenance than my dad's old Koren Audio Reflex receiver (not nearly as much power though lol).</p><p><a href="https://hachyderm.io/tags/vintagehifi" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>vintagehifi</span></a> <a href="https://hachyderm.io/tags/hifi" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>hifi</span></a> <a href="https://hachyderm.io/tags/stereo" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>stereo</span></a> <a href="https://hachyderm.io/tags/kenwood" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>kenwood</span></a></p>
