I received a notice that in February 2024 the company, Change, that processes billing and claims for the #health insurance company I had at the time had experienced a #cyber #attack with a loss of private information.

Today, over 12 months later, they notified me.

This breach involves millions of people.

In our current environment when so much is being threatened, private health information can be sold and used to deny future coverage and to target less desirable people for the unthinkable

The data that may have been seen and taken was not the same for everyone. Some of this data may be about the person who paid the bill for health care services.

The prevalence of erectile dysfunction (ED) that developed after COVID-19 and the associated underlying factors were analyzed based on a questionnaire survey, COVID-19 Recovery Study II in Japan. A case–control study was conducted with those with or without ED one and two years hospitalized with COVID-19 between March and September 2021. Six hundred and nine Japanese men, with a median age of 48 years, were analyzed. During the study period, 116 subjects (19.0%) had erectile dysfunction. The patients with ED responded with less subjective awareness of recovery and high breathless and fatigue scores compared to those without ED. The patients with ED also showed higher Hospital Anxiety and Depression Scale-D (depression) and the EuroQol 5-dimensions 5-level scores for pain/discomfort and anxiety/depression scores compared before COVID-19 infection. Sleep disturbance was suggested to be associated with erectile dysfunction using an exploratory clustering analysis in the one-year survey. There were no associations of COVID-19 severity, reinfection, vaccination frequency, antiviral treatment for COVID-19 with the presence of erectile dysfunction. It was considered that mental support for the subject with erectile dysfunction as a long-COVID symptom is warranted.

• On October 18, 2024, exposure to a travel-related case in New Brunswick led to outbreaks of
measles in New Brunswick and Ontario. While New Brunswick declared their outbreak over on
January 7, 2025 1
, Ontario continues to experience measles transmission, which has also led to
cases of measles in Manitoba 2
.
• As of March 12, 2025, Ontario has reported a total of 372 measles cases (277 confirmed, 95
probable) associated with this outbreak occurring in 11 public health units (Table 1).
• This represents an increase of 195 cases (150 confirmed, 45 probable) and 7 new public health
units reporting cases of measles since the previous epidemiological summary on February 27
(Figure 1).
• The sharp increase in the number of outbreak cases and the geographic spread in recent weeks is
attributable to ongoing exposures and transmission among individuals who are unimmunized.
Further information on measles exposure settings in Ontario may be found on Public Health
Ontario’s website here.
• Individuals born in or after 1970 made up 99.2% of outbreak cases:
• 72.6% (n=270) were in children and adolescents, 26.3% (n=98) in adults (Table 1).
• Seven outbreak cases were pregnant; five were unimmunized and two had previously received
two doses of measles vaccine.
• One outbreak case was in a newborn.
• Among children and adolescents, 90.7% were unimmunized, while among adults, 54.1% were
unimmunized (Figure 2).

Two of the leading health thinktanks in the UK have said that, while they can
see the case for abolishing NHS England, the benefits for patients might be
modest

In a statement, Sarah Woolnough, chief executive of the King’s Fund, said:
44 Today’s announcement lands on the same day that NHS stats show people
continue to wait days in A&E and many patients remain stuck in hospital beds
despite being well enough to leave. The most important question is how will the
abolition of NHS England make it easier for people to get a GP appointment,
shorten waits for planned care and improve people’s health? That hasn’t yet
been set out - ministers will need to explain how the prize will be worth the
price.

It is absolutely right that democratically elected politicians must have clear
oversight of how the NHS delivers for patients and spends hundreds of billions
of taxpayer money. It is also reasonable to want to deliver better value by
reducing duplication and waste between two national bodies where they are
performing a similar role. It is true that over its just over a decade of existence,
NHS England has been asked to take on a lot more additional power, functions
and therefore staff; than it was originally designed to do.

Having now made the decision to abolish NHS England, and while we still wait
for the publication of the NHS 10 Year Plan, the government must be clear why
this significant structural change at this time is necessary, and how it fits into
their wider plans. The potential cost savings would be minimal in the context of
the entire NHS budget, and so they must ensure that the changes produce the
improved effectiveness which is sought by making this change.

And Thea Stein, chief executive of the Nuffield Trust, said:

44 Today’s news will be devastating for staff at all levels of NHS England, and
we must remain mindful of the human cost of this decision. With the public
finances under extraordinary pressure it does, however, make sense to remove
the duplication and bureaucracy that exists currently - and patients and the
public are probably not going to shed many tears over the shifting of power
from an arm’s-length body into central government.

But profound problems facing the NHS remain: how to meet growing patient
need in the face of spiralling waiting lists and how to invest in care closer to
home with the NHS’s wider finances already underwater and social care reform
in the long grass. It is not immediately clear that rearranging the locus of the
power at the top will make a huge and immediate difference to these issues,
which ultimately will be how patients and the public judge the government.

I'm actually quite lucky that when I have a migraine attack, I just need to pop one over-the-counter painkiller and wait for half an hour for the flickering to end. Then I'm pretty much fine again.

But I thought I should talk to a doctor when this thing suddenly went from 0.06 times a month to 5 times a month for no apparent reason.

"Every #migraine attack happens for no reason known to science", she said.

But she gave me a funny prescription: when the aura flickering starts, immediately micro-dose aspirin. Not paracetamol, not ibuprophen, but actual aspirin: acetylsalicylic acid. No you hippies, not microdose *that* acid.
