I had a bad fencing weekend in London. I competed in the London HEMA Open tournament in three categories (in this order): saber, rapier and dagger, and longsword.<br>
<br>
In saber I won two and lost two fights in the pool, ending up 30th before elimination, where I lost (deservedly) in the first round.<br>
<br>
In rapier and dagger I fought a bit better - I won three times, and lost two times, ending up 22nd. However, because it was (too?) late, the organisers decided to let only 16 fighters (out of 58) into the elimination. Hm 😕<br>

In longword I was just simply stupid. In the pool I won all bouts, but, like last year, I lost in the first round of elimination 🤦♂️ Why...<br>

Today I took part in the tournament Brünner Stich, organised by Dobrovolný šerm. It was a very good event, but I did worse than I would have liked. In the group I have won five out of six bouts, but the one where I lost I should have won. I was 10th after the groups. 56 fencers advanced to the elimination, therefore I fought from the first round. I was eliminated in the second round by Matúš Koronthály, but it was the fight that I enjoyed the most from the whole tournament. In total I have finished 19th 😕<br>

Jan ŽegklitzMy fencing club, SHŠ Krkavci, invites you to a team longsword tournament!<br>

Teams of 3-4 members compete in the tournament. In the first phase, the members compete in groups, similarly to classic tournaments. Based on the group phase results, a team elimination bracket is arranged, where the whole teams compete in a relay format similar to the one used in sport fencing.<br>

Tamen, post circulōs sextus fuī et facilē in ēlīminātiōnem progressus sum. In ēlīminātiōne mē satis bene pugnāre dīcam, quia nōn victus sum et prīmus 🥇 fīnīvī, ursam auream capiēns! Yesterday and the day before I took part in the Berlin HEMA Cup. Here I describe the second day when I fought with the longsword. This tournament used an unusual system where the results of the bouts were not important, but those of the indiviudal exchanges were. Nevertheless, I was sixth after the pools, and easily advanced into the elimination. In the elimination, I fought quite well, I would say, because I have not been defeated, and finished the first 🥇, claiming the gold bear! I thank a lot to the Czech-Slovak island for preparation for this afterblow tournament.<br>

Last week I participated in the tournament Rotyka's Claw (Rotyčí spár) in Prague. I fought only in longsword, and quite well. Nobody defeated me in the pool, and after the pools I was first. In the elimination I won in all rounds except for the last one. In the final bout, which could have been up to three rounds, I lost in both of the first two rounds, finishing second in total.<br>

The second to the last week I took part in the tournament FechtBerg in Bielsko-Biała in Poland. On the first day we fenced with longsword and rapier with dagger. With the longsword I fought very well: I won all the bouts in the group, and then in first three elimination bouts. However, in the fourth bout, the quarter-final, I lost to Pavel Dostal, and finished 5th to 8th.<br>
I did not fight as well with rapier and dagger: in total I won three bouts as well as lost three, one of which was in the first round of elimination.<br>
On the second day there was a team longsword tournament in which I participated as a member of the Czech team. We fought very well, only one team - the Polish one - defeated us, therefore our team finished 2nd.<br>
The last competition was saber, but in it I fought the worst of all the competitions - I won only two bouts in the group, I lost three, and did not advance to the elimination.<br>

Open du Port de la Lune, day two - saber and sword and buckler. In the saber group I lost only once, most narrowly 6:7, and won in the other three bouts. I advanced to the elimination where I won in the first round, but in the next one (top 8) I lost. <br>
In the sword and buckler group I also lost once, and won twice. In the elimination, to which 8 of 12 fighters advanced, I won in the first round, then I lost in the semifinal. In the very last fight, I was able to win, claiming the bronze medal 🥉. Unless I remember incorrectly, this is my first medal for sword and buckler. <br>
Congratulations to Batesta Bordeaux for a well organised tournament, especially considering this was the first time 👏<br>

Open du Port de la Lune, day one - longsword. Today I took part in a tournament in Bordeaux, France, organised by Batesta Bordeaux. In the pool I performed very well, having only a single point scored against me, winning all four bouts. However, the elimination (which 16 fencers of 34 in total advanced to) was much more difficult. All the bouts were super close, and I could have lost in each one of it, but that did not happen, and I won the whole tournament and claimed the gold medal 🥇. I am very happy about it, and I look forward to the second day when there will be saber and sword & buckler tournaments. I can only hope to be similarly lucky.<br>

Helsinki Longsword Open 2025, day two and very short one - long sword. My performance was catastrophic. In the pool I won only twice, twice I lost, and had one draw. I narrowly advanced to the elimination - I was 95th and 96 advanced - where I lost right in the first fight.<br>
Even though I certainly could have fought better, it is not possible not to mention the judging, because it was terrible in my opinion. Unless the hits were very obvious, it resembled a lottery. This judging was one of the worst I have experienced. I thank a lot Czech, Slovak, and Polish judges for their quality. I have come to the opinion that HLO is only big, and nothing else (based on not only this year, but also the two previous years when I participated).<br>

The whole year 2024 I counted every exchange in every fight (both in tournaments and in sparring) with every weapon. When I started counting at the beginning of the year, I had no idea what the number could be. This is it (however, it is probably not accurate, the true number might differ by about 10%). Today I start again from zero. How many will it be?<br>

On Saturday I took part in the longsword tournament 'Pardubický meč', which was the biggest one in Czechia this year. There is not much I can write. In the pool I won 5 bouts out of 6, and in the elimination I finished in top 16. The event was good, but I did not have a good feeling from it. Both bouts that I lost I could have and should have won 😕<br>
