ICYMI: 🏺 How did light shape religious experience in ancient Mesopotamian temples?

We investigated this by reconstructing and analysing lighting conditions in four common types of sacred architecture from the ancient Near East.

Using standardised 3D models, we simulated how natural light entered temple spaces.

I once again went looking for the lost Smiley ASCII programs from 1999.

I got a little closer this time, finding yet another early website of mine that had hosted the files but alas the IA indexer couldn't collect the files because they were behind a cgi-bin hosted script.

I'm now digging out old hard drives of mine to find my physical backup of these 25 year old files.

It's going to be here somewhere!

The Archaeology Data Service is expanding, and leading a consortium which is setting up a new Heritage Science Data Service.

A total of eight new posts have been advertised, including a data standards officer, digital archives supervisor, collections development manager, applications developer, and systems manager. Closing date for applications is 18th October 2024.

For details, see archaeologydataservice.ac.uk/n

"What is important to us? How and why do we decide what to keep—and what do we let go? And how will future generations make sense of what we’re able to save?"

“Welcome to the challenge of every historian, archaeologist, novelist,” says Genevieve Bell, a cultural anthropologist. “How do you make sense of what’s left? And then how do you avoid reading it through the lens of the now?”
