The Transition9 movement works for the natural integration of human and next-level artificial intelligence in harmony with a new nature-inspired computing architecture.

We've described Transition9 in rather technical terms to date.

The far harder challenge is writing about it in ways everyone might understand regardless of their own expertise, experience, and talents.

Here is Transition9's “Explain it to me like I’m a teenager” 🙂

So far, I have been delving into the #Web3 and #crypto debate only superficially, as the very few notions I got led me to abhor any kind of technology related to the #blockchain.

Since I started my new job at @dweb, though, I am finding myself revisiting my position by deepening my knowledge on the topic. I am mostly drawing the same conclusions—crypto is terrible—yet I am glad I am learning more also on what I am very critical about.

I am particularly thankful to @mai for writing this article, which I believe is a great starting point to develop an informed opinion.

Above all, as mai points out, nothing is all-bad, and there are for sure ideas and practices that can be learned (as cautionary tales in the worst case scenarios) even from problematic technologies, communities, and/or founders.

Teaser :-) In my talk tonight on "Identity on the Open Social Web", I'll address the key requirements. We need:

* Identity that I can share,

* Identity that I can recognize,

* and Identity that I can prove.

The Open Social Web today is close, but not quite there yet. I have some ideas what to do.

This #DWeb Seattle event is now full hybrid. See you there?

lu.maDWeb Seattle Gathering - Feb 2025 · LumaCome over to meet cool people and learn and discuss the next steps of the DWeb movement and solutions. This time around, we want to start conversations around…

I'm speaking to DWeb Seattle this Friday on "Identity on the Open Social Web".

It's an in-person event, but yours' truly is going to present remotely, so perhaps people can also attend remotely.

Thanks @nigini for inviting me!

@ireneista Thanks for articulating that so well! Agree and this is why I wanted to talk it out a bit- it bothers me that engaging in resistance against malevolent forces can have the effect of their aggression finding its way into your language.

I think there is also something to be noted about *substance*. Even in those moments of outrage, the difference I find is that fascist actors' anger is expressed as vague hatemongering or condemnation against a broad target demographic (indeed, that's core to the whole deal). When myself and other activists confronting this condemn actions or call them out, the difference is that we point *precisely*.

Seeing this #DWeb mailout written this way seems to me like a milder form of prefigurative recruitment- labelling these as "knee jerk call outs" is completely disingenuous when numerous attempts at peaceful resolutions over the years have been pushed out; and your "community has raised serious issues about [Justine's] past tweets from 2014-2015 about Jewish people, indentured servitude, and slavery".

That is a long-term problem being ignored and a bigot being protected by a movement's leaders.

It's also a subtle broad condemnation of the DWeb community members who raised those serious issues, and that's why I label this mailout a fascist act.

They are recruiting.

@internetarchive @dweb #DWeb communities: just set the boundary: #NoFascistsAllowed. It actually *is* that simple.
infosec.exchange/@JessTheUnsti

Infosec ExchangeJess👾 (@JessTheUnstill@infosec.exchange)Sure "No Fascists Allowed" is an enforceable and testable rule. "Is this person a fascist?" Ban them. "How do you define fascist?" They act in ways similar to how other fascists act. They act in ways that promote nationalism, authoritarianism, racism, sexism, bigotry, antisemitism, and/or support people and organizations that do the same. Those are fascists. The fact that people are so worried about how to define fascists is because they want to know exactly how much of all of that behavior they can get away with before getting banned. So you start with "No Fascists Allowed". Tell them right up front NONE of that shit is allowed. If they're arguing about how you should allow a little of it, that's because they want to do a whole lot of it, so you just skip to the end and ban them. No Fascists Allowed mens you don't have to allow fascists a platform to spread their garbage. You don't have to wait until they break a rule in your particular space. If you figure out they're a J6er or a Qanon or whatever just straight up ban them, even if they've never been caught doing shit in your space - because they will. Eventually. And you probably won't hear about it or see it until after they've already gotten a bunch of their friends into the space and already driven out a bunch of marginalized people. Zero. Tolerance. For. Fascists.

@internetarchive @dweb It has been reported back to me by multiple sources that at least 5 different people approached the core #DWebCamp team with concerns about #HOLO sponsorship this year, and that those concerns were misrepresented internally by senior team members. Meanwhile communities adjacent to & within #Holochain and #DWeb are circulating Balaji Srinivasan conferences.

@dweb @internetarchive I will add that this #DWeb mailout is not the first time I have encountered the words of #AdrienneMareeBrown being misappropriated to justify the inclusion of hate actors; and that my other encounter with this rhetoric was with Harris-Braun. If anyone would care to alert her that her work is being abused in this way, I'm sure she might appreciate knowing. Pretty sure the false idea that if we just be nice to fascists they'll stop being fascists is not what she had in mind.

@dweb @internetarchive It has also been conveyed to me that he has taken gatekeeping actions to prevent discussion of #Gaza / #Palestine from entering the #DWeb community- the topic is perceived as being "too volatile". In my experience #HOLO's focus has always been protecting the comforts of privileged people and silencing the voices of the marginalised. In fact that is how they chose to manipulate me at DWeb Camp in 2022. My formal complaint states as much.
