Quinn Dombrowski<p>I'm not getting on a plane for <a class="hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" href="https://bsky.app/search?q=%23DH2025" target="_blank">#DH2025</a> today. The work that's most meaningful to me didn't get in, and the bar for international travel right now is very high. So I'm camping with my family by the Oregon Country Fair, which is the biggest <a class="hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" href="https://bsky.app/search?q=%23DHmakes" target="_blank">#DHmakes</a> space in spirit that I've ever been to. No regrets.</p>
Quinn Dombrowski<p>For all my fellow librarians, data admins, and other university staff types, I spent today's laser cutter time playing with different materials and a message in the spirit of <a class="hashtag" href="https://bsky.app/search?q=%23LoveDataWeek" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#LoveDataWeek</a>. We're indirect costs. If the government cuts those rates, there goes our funding. <a class="hashtag" href="https://bsky.app/search?q=%23DHmakes" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#DHmakes</a></p>
Brandon Walsh<p>Ok here's a new thing - scheming with Rachel Retica and Seanna Viechweg for something we are calling Snack-Sized Digital Pedagogy. More info in the Bluesky thread here - <a href="https://bsky.app/profile/walshbr.bsky.social/post/3ldo24dwlx22w" rel="nofollow noopener" translate="no" target="_blank"><span class="invisible">https://</span><span class="ellipsis">bsky.app/profile/walshbr.bsky.</span><span class="invisible">social/post/3ldo24dwlx22w</span></a></p><p>Here's a google form to gauge interest. The bite-sized version -&gt; a free, monthly-ish zoom series consisting of 1-2 short lightning talks on a pedagogical thing followed by discussion w/ mini web publication to follow.</p><p>Interested in all kinds of perspectives from folks who want to share - K-12, higher ed, students, cultural heritage workers, administrators. And all kinds of things - tools, methods, failures, concepts.</p><p>Inspired by the <a href="https://hcommons.social/tags/DHMakes" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>DHMakes</span></a> methods series, we're going to aim to turn this into a crowd-sourced series of mini web publications. Will start with a limited series and see how this goes! Quinn Dombrowski<p>Hi, I'm Quinn, I run a Textile Makerspace and teach data visualization with textiles at Stanford, in a weird job between the library and non-English literatures. I post a lot of fun textile things via <a class="hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" href="https://bsky.app/search?q=%23DHmakes" target="_blank">#DHmakes</a>, along with digital humanities text analysis stuff, including the Data-Sitters Club.<br><br><a href="https://datasittersclub.github.io/site/books" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">The Data-Sitters Club Books</a></p>

Quinn Dombrowski<p><a href="https://bsky.brid.gy/ap/did:plc:q7y4ytpdfs2rkzndgoyofi2y" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">@epyllia.bsky.social</a> on the "tangles and snags" of collation. Students were essential collaborators. "Correct the input machinery not the output". Also relatable for <a href="https://bsky.brid.gy/hashtag/DHmakes" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#DHmakes</a>. 🤔 <a href="https://bsky.brid.gy/hashtag/DH2024" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#DH2024</a></p>
Dr. Anindita Basu Sempere<p>I also really love this project by Claudia Berger and Gabby Evergreen — speculative fiction, textiles, maps, and climate change. <a href="https://storymaps.arcgis.com/stories/9f1d23f02fa8483f884c1b6d20bf0762" rel="nofollow noopener" translate="no" target="_blank"><span class="invisible">https://</span><span class="ellipsis">storymaps.arcgis.com/stories/9</span><span class="invisible">f1d23f02fa8483f884c1b6d20bf0762</span></a><br><a href="https://mastodon.xyz/tags/DHMakes" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>DHMakes</span></a> <a href="https://mastodon.xyz/tags/DH2024" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>DH2024</span></a></p>
Dr. Anindita Basu Sempere<p>OMG textiles + maps + embedded stories. Made by Gabby Evergreen. I am *obsessed* <a href="https://quiltmap.wordpress.com" rel="nofollow noopener" translate="no" target="_blank"><span class="invisible">https://</span><span class="">quiltmap.wordpress.com</span><span class="invisible"></span></a></p><p><a href="https://mastodon.xyz/tags/DHMakes" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>DHMakes</span></a> <a href="https://mastodon.xyz/tags/DH2024" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>DH2024</span></a></p>
Dr. Anindita Basu Sempere<p>Travel day for me — hope to see many of you at <a href="https://mastodon.xyz/tags/DH2024" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>DH2024</span></a>! I’ll attend DH Inside Out and <a href="https://mastodon.xyz/tags/DHMakes" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>DHMakes</span></a> — still figuring out panels 😅</p>
Amanda Wyatt Visconti<p>Also this week, I made a light-up resin TTRPG dice necklace for a friend! (Still haven't achieved rollable dice yet, but having LED wires come out of one die face gets around the challenge of getting the top of the mold to closely match the other die faces) <a href="https://hcommons.social/tags/DHmakes" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>DHmakes</span></a></p>
Amanda Wyatt Visconti<p>Tried to include embedded large googly eyes, but they migrated from where they should be during curing, unfortunately, so not visible. I'm not sure if I should add to the exterior or keep as-is—what do yall think? <a href="https://hcommons.social/tags/DHmakes" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>DHmakes</span></a></p>
Amanda Wyatt Visconti<p>I finished making a silly resin memento mori. Brain is a dry ramen noodle block, teeth are novelty chatter teeth, and it took ~ a week of daily pours/sets and curing time. It's full-size (just the front half of a skull). <a href="https://hcommons.social/tags/DHmakes" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>DHmakes</span></a><br> +</p>
Amanda Wyatt Visconti<p>My article discusses:<br>* citing &amp; shelving many knowledge formats as a justice issue;<br>* benefits of building you a lil db of stuff you dig;<br>* using datasets to design &amp; build book-adjacent electronics, fabrication, coding, art, etc. prototypes<br>* includes a bonus making tutorial! </p><p><a href="https://dhandlib.org/2024/04/29/book-adjacent-database-makerspace-prototypes-repairing-book-centric-citation-bias-in-dh-working-libraries/" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank"><span class="invisible">https://</span><span class="ellipsis">dhandlib.org/2024/04/29/book-a</span><span class="invisible">djacent-database-makerspace-prototypes-repairing-book-centric-citation-bias-in-dh-working-libraries/</span></a></p><p><a href="https://hcommons.social/tags/DHmakes" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>DHmakes</span></a></p>
Amanda Wyatt Visconti<p>New article! I want my lab's ref collection to show the many formats knowledge takes (not just books). I've built a database of variously shaped "reads" (eg zines, blog posts, games, datasets) that's powering my prototyping multiple makerspace projects to make all “reads” as visible on our shelves: <a href="https://dhandlib.org/2024/04/29/book-adjacent-database-makerspace-prototypes-repairing-book-centric-citation-bias-in-dh-working-libraries/" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank"><span class="invisible">https://</span><span class="ellipsis">dhandlib.org/2024/04/29/book-a</span><span class="invisible">djacent-database-makerspace-prototypes-repairing-book-centric-citation-bias-in-dh-working-libraries/</span></a></p><p><a href="https://hcommons.social/tags/DHmakes" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>DHmakes</span></a></p>
Quinn Dombrowski<p>My Textile Makerspace and I made it into the promo video for Making@Stanford! It's come so far from its days as a dusty computer lab in the non-English literatures building. ✨ <a href="https://mstdn.social/tags/DHmakes" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>DHmakes</span></a> <a href="https://mstdn.social/tags/DigitalHumanities" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>DigitalHumanities</span></a> <a href="https://mstdn.social/tags/textiles" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>textiles</span></a> <a href="https://youtu.be/N3LIzuRaYzg?si=ommBGqPTLi2d4gjv" rel="nofollow noopener" translate="no" target="_blank"><span class="invisible">https://</span><span class="ellipsis">youtu.be/N3LIzuRaYzg?si=ommBGq</span><span class="invisible">PTLi2d4gjv</span></a></p>

Quinn Dombrowski<p>I'm overdue on laundry so ended up accidentally cobbling together an outfit out of <a href="https://mstdn.social/tags/AI" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>AI</span></a>-themed things even though it didn't fit the day at all. Delightful necklace from the Peculiarity Shop. And I taught three students in <a href="https://mstdn.social/tags/Dataviz" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>Dataviz</span></a> with <a href="https://mstdn.social/tags/Textiles" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>Textiles</span></a> how to set up the loom and weave. <a href="https://mstdn.social/tags/DHmakes" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>DHmakes</span></a> <a href="https://mstdn.social/tags/DigitalHumanities" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>DigitalHumanities</span></a> <a href="https://mstdn.social/tags/weaving" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>weaving</span></a></p>
Quinn Dombrowski<p>5 hours of teaching a drop-in workshop on taking body measurements, and reading and making sewing patterns, plus bonus embroidery, spinning, and sewing basics. This month has included a new kind of insomnia (white bead), attempting to use sleep drugs (overlapping stitches) and just generally not sleeping well at all! <a href="https://mstdn.social/tags/DHmakes" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>DHmakes</span></a> <a href="https://mstdn.social/tags/DigitalHumanities" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>DigitalHumanities</span></a></p>
