The excellent Hafodty standing stone fo today's #StandingStoneSunday

A really fine monolith, it looks out over the Conwy valley and is yet another of the multiplicity of sites encircling Tal y Fan mountain on the edge of the Carneddau.

A grey green tapering standing stone. There is a darker band around the lower third of the stone, which has been caused by sheep using it as a rubbing post. It stands in a grassy field enclosed with old drystone walls. The hill slopes upwards behind the stone, rising to a rocky crag on the right skyline. It's a overcast day, muggy and with rain imminent.

The fine Cae Coch standing stone above the beautiful Conwy valley for today's #StandingStoneSunday.

The stone is a thin slab, but broad and tapering on the side that faces the valley. It's one of several stones on this part of the Tal y Fan slopes, likely marking the route to the wondrous Maen y Bardd chambered tomb. Here the view is to Pen y Gaer hillfort on the centre skyline, with the rocky ridge of Pen y Castell on the right.

This visit July 2011.

A broad slab standing stone, tapering upwards to a point like a leaf or an arrowhead. It stands on a grassy hillside, with a patchwork of drystone walled fields sloping gently away below it. A broad river valley lies far below on the left. On the centre skyline there is a flat-topped rocky hill, which is crowned by an Iron Age hillfort. A rocky mountain ridge slopes upwards from there on the right skyline, to a rocky summit. It's somewhat sunny, with both high and low cloud streaking the sky.

Visible with the naked eye but much better on camera.

I've wanted to see it for years and by coincidence, we happen to be at one of my favourite campsites for stargazing. Lucky!

Waiting for Tesco to open this morning

1st anniversary of joining Mastodon today, celebrated with a trip to the very lovely Bodnant Gardens, in the Conwy Valley.

The acers were looking particularly fine, all aflame for autumn.

A lovely sequoia at Bodnant Gardens in the #Conwy valley in #Wales.

There are a few other chonky trees around Bodnant but this one, which is nearly 150 years old, was our favourite.

The Conwy Railway Bridge, in Welsh known as Pont Rheilffordd Conwy, and Conwy Castle (Castell Conwy) in Wales - a vintage photochrom print from the 1890s.

The bridge was designed by Robert Stephenson and opened in 1849. It's still in use and protected as Welsh heritage.

#MetOffice have issued a Yellow Warning for Rain, 7pm Tue - 3am Wed, and Natural Resources Wales have also issued a Yellow “Be Aware” Advisory for risk of #flooding, for much of #Conwy and #Gwynedd counties.

Background: Rainfall is expected to continue through Tuesday and become heavier overnight. 15-25mm could widely fall in Conwy and Gwynedd in 3-4 hours, and some places over high ground could see as much as 40-50mm of rainfall in total.
