I think the most enraging thing about trying to talk to doctors about EBV and reactivated EBV is that they insist that there’s no point in testing for these things because everybody has it. I didn’t get EBV until I was 31 years old, so no everybody doesn’t have it until you actually infect them with it.

Belgian donor scandal sees a man with a cancer gene conceive 52 children.

Belgium has found itself in the midst of a scandal after it was revealed that a Danish sperm donor with a pathogenic gene mutation conceived 52 children with 37 different Belgian women between 2007 and 2018.

The gene mutation, known as TP53, confers a significantly increased risk of cancer.

While the UK's treatment of cancer is still compromised by diagnosis & treatment delays (to some extent caused y the ongoing/engineered crisis in the NHS), we should also celebrate the doubling of cancer survival rates in the last 50 years.

Of course, the UK is still not doing nearly as well as other countries on treating cancer(s), but nonetheless we should allow ourselves a minute to see this doubling of survival rates as a good thing...
