OT: I get very annoyed at sites that have cookie plugins that require you to scroll down and down and down, manually rejecting each of the "legitimate interest" vendors sections.

What they call "legitimate interest" is often not my definition of "legitimate interest."

Please use a plugin with a "reject all" for non-essential cookies.

Maybe you think I'll just get tired of scrolling down and will just accept all. But I don't. If your site irritates me on cookies, I just leave.

Meeting up all your online friends
in-person can be exhilarating! :awesome:

But while you're having fun hanging out at your favorite hacker conference,
don't forget to ask for consent before posting photos of others online.

Asking for consent before sharing data is cool AF.

Be cool AF :neocat_cool_fingerguns: ✨

A lot of people claim that they need to use proprietary software, either for work or something else. And the question is. Do they consent to it, or the existence of a need makes it some sort of a power dynamic?

#DatingApps Need to Learn How #Consent Works

Staying safe whilst #dating online should not be the responsibility of users—dating apps should be prioritizing our #privacy by default, & laws should require companies to prioritize user privacy over profit. But dating apps are taking shortcuts in safeguarding the privacy & #security of users in favour of developing & deploying #AI tools on their platforms, sometimes by using your most personal info to train their AI tools.

“Germany’s morally bankrupt political and media class, with their scandalous lack of historical self-awareness, continue to manufacture consent for a genocidal war that has German entanglement written all over it”

ALERT for Bluesky Bridge Users 🚨 🦋

If you are using a Bluesky bridge on Mastodon, DO NOT TAG Mastodon accounts in your posts without prior informed consent from this person.

This could end up showing a preview of this person's profile picture and bio on Bluesky without their consent.

Additionally, be careful about how the upcoming Quote Post feature could behave with Bluesky bridges.

Some of us don't want our information shared with commercial platforms like Bluesky, and have not consented to this bridge.

This practice can even endanger some Fediverse users.

If you have chosen to share your
own data with commercial platforms, make sure you leave the same choice to others.

This is important.

I was also glad one of the #Pride organizers reminded the participants they should NOT assume that all people want to be hugged, but instead must ask first.

A small but important gesture. (I'm touch-repulsed btw.)

This is something that all prides should do. #Consent includes stuff like hugs.

It is always LESS awkward to ask first, and then get told no and respect that no than to randomly hug strangers without warning. Yes, even at Pride!

And it makes me wonder: Do the large majority of people refuse #consent and admitting this makes #Google look bad as it shows people don't trusts it?

Or do most people say yes, please combine all my data! and Google is worried we might see that as a sign the consent screen isn't working?

Either way, their secrecy about it does not serve them well.
