OT: I get very annoyed at sites that have cookie plugins that require you to scroll down and down and down, manually rejecting each of the "legitimate interest" vendors sections.
What they call "legitimate interest" is often not my definition of "legitimate interest."
Please use a plugin with a "reject all" for non-essential cookies.
Maybe you think I'll just get tired of scrolling down and will just accept all. But I don't. If your site irritates me on cookies, I just leave.
Please be considerate when taking pictures and ask all those in the frame. And for fuck sake ask people before interacting physically with them.
Meeting up all your online friends
in-person can be exhilarating!
But while you're having fun hanging out at your favorite hacker conference,
don't forget to ask for consent before posting photos of others online.
Asking for consent before sharing data is cool AF.
Be cool AF
Dear men: I cannot believe that this needs saying, but please do not approach me and engage me in conversation while not only *filming me* but also *live streaming me* without my knowledge or consent.
Good grief.

A lot of people claim that they need to use proprietary software, either for work or something else. And the question is. Do they consent to it, or the existence of a need makes it some sort of a power dynamic?

A game about consent on itchio
@festal @katzenberger @Gargron It should be possible to not allow #quotePosts at all, and it should be the default behaviour with allowing quote posts being #optIn.
It's what he promised. It's what he should deliver. And while he has a proven history of ignoring even the best supported change requests in the Mastodon Github, it should be the top issue until it is fixed.

#DatingApps Need to Learn How #Consent Works
Staying safe whilst #dating online should not be the responsibility of users—dating apps should be prioritizing our #privacy by default, & laws should require companies to prioritize user privacy over profit. But dating apps are taking shortcuts in safeguarding the privacy & #security of users in favour of developing & deploying #AI tools on their platforms, sometimes by using your most personal info to train their AI tools.

Fun fact:
ADRIFT, the free award winning video game about consent, was recreated as a life size exhibit for an exhibition at MOD. to teach museum visitors about consent.
Appropriate for all ages. Teach consent early & often.

If you have a Google Workspace account, the Admin can turn OFF Gemini for ALL of its users. That's what we did for our nonprofit org's users.
How Germany continues to manufacture consent for genocide
by Timo Al-Farooq in Al Mayadeen English
@palestine
@israel
@GermanyUN @germany
“Germany’s morally bankrupt political and media class, with their scandalous lack of historical self-awareness, continue to manufacture consent for a genocidal war that has German entanglement written all over it”
We really need to work hard all together to improve our collective culture around privacy and consent.
This isn't just a matter of using the right tools and enforcing the right policies,
this is about people.
ALERT for Bluesky Bridge Users
If you are using a Bluesky bridge on Mastodon, DO NOT TAG Mastodon accounts in your posts without prior informed consent from this person.
This could end up showing a preview of this person's profile picture and bio on Bluesky without their consent.
Additionally, be careful about how the upcoming Quote Post feature could behave with Bluesky bridges.
Some of us don't want our information shared with commercial platforms like Bluesky, and have not consented to this bridge.
This practice can even endanger some Fediverse users.
If you have chosen to share your
own data with commercial platforms, make sure you leave the same choice to others.
This is important.

Also, how do I turn off the carousel that hides all of my pinned posts bar one?
When I pin posts it's because *I want people to see them*. Why the hell would I want almost all of them to be hidden?
Why was this feature rolled out by default instead of #optIn?
I was also glad one of the #Pride organizers reminded the participants they should NOT assume that all people want to be hugged, but instead must ask first.
A small but important gesture. (I'm touch-repulsed btw.)
This is something that all prides should do. #Consent includes stuff like hugs.
It is always LESS awkward to ask first, and then get told no and respect that no than to randomly hug strangers without warning. Yes, even at Pride!
And it makes me wonder: Do the large majority of people refuse #consent and admitting this makes #Google look bad as it shows people don't trusts it?
Or do most people say yes, please combine all my data! and Google is worried we might see that as a sign the consent screen isn't working?
Either way, their secrecy about it does not serve them well.
