I've always been drawn to the sound of water flowing through a small stream. It's not a roar, not even a forceful murmur, but rather a soft, gentle trickle that is constantly in the background.

Despite its lack of clamor, it attracts my attention, for no other reason than that it is persistent, steady, and calming.

What did it for me was all the pink.

At Zion National Park, the cliffs are pink. Oh, I suppose you could call them red, but when the sun hits them just right, they glow pink.

And for a boy who grew up and has lived my whole life in the Pacific Northwest -- where the cliffs and rocks are decidedly Not Pink -- it was magical.
