Peter Bui<p>While using <a href="https://social.ndlug.org/tags/ghostty" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>ghostty</span></a> on my laptop, I noticed a number of "xdg-open [defunct]" processes accumulating over time.</p><p>After some investigation, I discovered that <a href="https://social.ndlug.org/tags/ghostty" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>ghostty</span></a> was not waiting on the xdg-open processes it created to open URLs when you clicked on them.</p><p>Although I have never programmed in <a href="https://social.ndlug.org/tags/zig" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>zig</span></a> before, I decided to take a stab at fixing the problem and ended up using a background thread to wait on these processes:</p><p><a href="https://github.com/ghostty-org/ghostty/pull/7657" rel="nofollow noopener" translate="no" target="_blank"><span class="invisible">https://</span><span class="ellipsis">github.com/ghostty-org/ghostty</span><span class="invisible">/pull/7657</span></a></p><p>I happy to say my PR was approved and merged today!</p>
