Wah+ :thonking:<p>You know what I love about Mastodon? The userbase is genuinely so much more kind and respectful than <a href="https://mastodon.social/tags/xitter" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>xitter</span></a> or even <a href="https://mastodon.social/tags/bluesky" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>bluesky</span></a>, for example. X was a cesspool of toxicity even before it was bought by Musk, but now it isn’t any better either. Bluesky is somewhat similar (since it’s getting a little mainstream nowadays), although not as bad. But Mastodon truly is the sanctuary I’ve been looking for. I hope this never changes.</p><p>The future really is federated. ❤️🐘</p>

william.maggos<p>Just got an email from <a href="https://liberal.city/tags/apple" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>apple</span></a> about podcasts with links to their <a href="https://liberal.city/tags/xitter" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>xitter</span></a>, <a href="https://liberal.city/tags/TikTok" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>TikTok</span></a> and <a href="https://liberal.city/tags/facebook" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>facebook</span></a> accounts. They don't need to win, just weaken the other guys.</p><p>I was told this is how capitalism works :P</p>
william.maggos<p>I was told to be happy that <a href="https://liberal.city/tags/bluesky" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>bluesky</span></a> now exists cause it would provide a realistic option to get people off <a href="https://liberal.city/tags/xitter" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>xitter</span></a> (and I agree we need to kill that propaganda machine).</p><p>But I'm a fan of the smart and honest dissidents and they are definitely not welcomed on bluesky. And apparently are allowed to bother those who don't till they leave.</p><p>I guess we needed their bad example to get better.</p>
william.maggos<p>Yes don't use <a href="https://liberal.city/tags/xitter" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>xitter</span></a>. It's a biased platform intended to manipulate. Mostly thanks to the algos but also cause they don't police abuse that tends to silence views Elon doesn't like. But on <a href="https://liberal.city/tags/bluesky" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>bluesky</span></a>, we're seeing abuse in the other direction.</p><p>Yes social media actually breaks info bubbles, but only if it's designed that way. william.maggos<p>If <a href="https://liberal.city/tags/xitter" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>xitter</span></a> didn't have an algo or trending etc, you'd only see posts from the people you follow. would it be that bad?</p><p>Yes, they'd still have lots of rightwing assholes bothering people till that's all that was there.</p><p>Ok, so add lots of mods to stop anybody from bothering others.
