Microsoft's May Update for Windows 11 is preventing users PCs from booting up.

The patch, KB5058405, has affected both Windows 11 version 23H2 and 22H2

Microsoft does not have a fix or workaround available.

Users who have already installed the patch and haven't encountered the issue are unlikely to be affected.

If you haven't installed the update yet, it might be best to wait for a fix before doing so.

I'm on this project where I'm swapping out ancient hardware for something with a TPM chip so that Windows 11 Officially Works, and let me tell you I am SO GLAD I have fully made the jump to Linux.

why? THEY FUCKING BROKE NOTEPAD.

I opened it up on the replacement system to take a few notes on the deployment. in addition to a completely unnecessary Copilot integration logo, I get a popup saying Notepad now autosaves when typing. which is a whole other set of issues, but whatever. I close it out after I finish, go back to my workstation to open up the file from the network share, and...

...it's completely blank.

Microsoft. how absolutely techbro brained do you have to be to fuck with Notepad in ways nobody asked for and make it less functional than the 64kb program that has always worked just fine. why. especially why for a program that is generally never used except by techs. is the desire to enshittify just that strong?????

As an example of how awful #Windows is for gaming, here is the performance and battery life on the Legion Go S (from the video in previous toot) on #Windows11 and #SteamOS. This is specially impressive if you consider all these games on Linux are running under a compatibility layer (#Proton / #Wine), vs native version on Windows. Imagine these were native #Linux versions using #Vulkan, the difference could be even bigger!
