@getimiskon That being said there's nothing wrong using #GIMP and I'd rather use that than to ever give #Adobe or #AVID money.

  • Not to mention #piracy isn't an option in any #commercial setup when courts already decided that using pirated Software will result in the copyrights being de-jure transfered to the Software Licensor in lieu of licensing payments...

So yeah, I do want to see #Linux ports of #Affinity's Suite and #Blackmagicdesign to step up their Support of Linux outside of #CentOS & #RHEL Workstation and at least on the #paid version get #FeatureParity to the #macOS & #Windows version in terms of #Codecs (or at least implement support for those not subject to #licensing like #AV1, #VP9 / #WebM & #Opus, #Vorbis & #Speex.

@brion hmm. My video playback is frozen in MacPro Intel for vp9.
Seems it is using native playback, but not actually playing. I guess Apple broke it again :/

< "probably"

Decodes first frame, then freezes playback.

I just updated my article "Resize a video with FFmpeg for Mastodon" with new parameters for #FFmpeg to convert a #video to a #WebM #container using the #VP9 #codec for #video and the #Opus codec for #audio which are all #open, #royaltyfree and well-supported #formats.

This way you can easily convert very heavy videos before uploading them to #Mastodon while remaining within the strict limits.

Following on from my previous toot:

I have concatenated and converted the videos I took of the ewe and twin lambs from mp4 to WebM file format, reducing the scale by half, and can now post the resulting files as they are reduced in size by over 95%.

I am still surprised at how much the WebM format is able to compress the files as some of my still images are larger than this video of over one minute duration. (6.4 MB (6408328 bytes))
