A couple of weeks ago I was showing a friend the ins and outs of VCV rack and got lost in the music, after a while he just plonked his mobile phone down by the speaker and started recording.
Turns out it's the perfect long track for a hot day.

Join us on 8th April at Vivid Projects for a VCV Rack Creative Coding Circle. VCV Rack is a free and open source software modular synthesiser for creating algorithmic and generative music.
We will explore basic usage of the software, and explore the vast library of virtual modules that allow you to create complex, intricate soundscapes.
You will then have time to experiment, learn with others, and share what you've learnt with other attendees.
No coding experience necessary, 18+ only.

Please note that these coding sessions are only open to Black people, which we define as Black African, Caribbean, Afro-Latinx and African-American heritage, including those of mixed-Black heritage who identify as such. These coding sessions will take place in-person at Vivid Projects.
(Algo|Afro) Futures presents the return of the Creative Coding Circles for 2025! These will be a series of free relaxed and casual meetups for Black artists and musicians interested in learning about live coding for music and visuals.
Across three sessions beginning 25th March and taking place at Vivid Projects in Birmingham, UK we will be sampling beginner-friendly programming languages for live coding music and visuals, including Strudel, Hydra and VCV Rack.
This is a great opportunity to network with other creatives, make new connections, and learn about creative coding together in a safe and inclusive environment. This is also a great way to sample live coding ahead of the relaunch of the (Algo|Afro) Futures mentoring programme later this year.
These sessions will be led by (Algo|Afro) Futures founder Antonio Roberts @hellocatfood and Tyger Blue @tygerblue

Made a quick improvised #music composition for #FrenchHorn and #BlippooBox (in #VCVRack ) - some #NotBonkWave - or is it #BonkWave ? Certainly could be #HonkWave all made in #Bitwig - don't play too loud, the horn comes in pretty solidly.
Another test on #vcvrack: autogenerative music for the "Exotic Life on a Distant Planet" theme.

Are there any of you #musician (s) who were previously addicted to #eurorack and have now become addicted to #vcvrack instead? Because, as fantastic as I think VCV Rack is, I never really got sucked into it. Unfortunately I had to sell all my Eurorack toys a few years back. #linuxaudio #opensource #musicproduction
My #AudioInterface appears to have made its final #BonkWave offering as it won't hold sample rate any more. What am I to consider for my next option for #ElectronicMusic production under #Windows with an eye towards moving to #Linux (or #DualBoot )? I use #Bitwig #VCVRack and less often #Reason. I'd like 4-6 I/O 24-bit 48kHz is fine. I am looking at the MOTU M4 as I have used the same brand (and interface) for my own #music for more than 25 years.
Das #Quadrophonie-#Surround-#Reverb-Abenteuer geht weiter… die vorangegangenen Versuche in #VCVrack waren eigentlich toll, aber dann musste ich feststellen, dass das #Ambuence Reverb Modul nicht auf 100% wet gestellt werden kann und das netzweit das noch niemandem aufgefallen ist (glaubt man der Suchmaschine).
Mit #ConvolutionReverb / #IR, wovon ich dann schon 8 Engines brauchte, war der Stöpsel-Synthesizer überfordert, also teste ich das altmodische #irLV2 in #Ardour, mein Input-Signal kann ich hier auch quad-pannen… aber so richtig gut sind die #Bricasti #TrueStereo Reverbs auch wieder nicht, sie sind zu wenig Stereo.
Das Konzept, Quadro als 4x Stereo anzusehen, geht mit denen irgendwie nicht auf, tatsächlich funktioniert es als 2x Stereo weniger schlecht.
2x Stereo ließe sich auch wieder in #Waves #Superrack routen – ob #irLive von Waves aber Stereo-Impulsantworten kann?
Wie übliche für Waves gibt es keine Doku.
Und das alles für ein einziges Konzert.
Nachdem sich herausgestellt hat, dass #Lexicon seine Kunden mit dem #MX400 Effektgerät quasi verarscht hat, weil dieses #Quadrophonie-#Surround-#Reverb angeblich kann aber am Ende einfach nix dergleichen kann…
… muss wohl der Eigenbau her. Hier ein schon länger zurückliegender Ansatz in #VCVrack: #Quadro verstehe ich dabei konzeptionell als 4x #Stereo – nicht wie die meisten als 2x Stereo.
Wenn man in der Mitte sitzt, kann man sich immer um 90° drehen und so ergeben sich vier Stereo-Paare.
Wenn ich das nun mit #Impulsantworten echt-stereo mache, z.B. den #Bricasti #M7, und weil der #Convolver von #RackPro nur 2 Kanäle kann anstatt 4 wie #irLV2… brauche ich schon 8 IR-Convolver, um weiterzukommen.
Vielleicht doch im #ArdourMixer probieren mit LV2 Plugins? Könnte allerdings zu Routing-Unübersichtlichkeit führen.

Noise Therapy: Session 077
Keeping it pretty simple this time, kind of a Lunetta-inspired patch. Patch d/l link in video description.
The first track I made using an actual DAW (Ardour): https://open.audio/library/tracks/415655
It was a bit fiddly but the outcome seems better than something recorded in one take using just VCV rack.
@thezerobit It would take a bit of work but you could use #vcvrack to do something like that. Feed the mic to one of the audio follower modules to get pitch and envelope info. Use the midi-cv module to get the same from the keyboard. Feed the mic audio to a frequency shifter modulated by the midi data.
