What’s your #Linux distro for computer newbies?

Those who don’t know what a byte is and just recently started writing on a keyboard.

Has anyone tested #VanillaOS?

Seems to be the best thing after #Ubuntu shenanigans for new users, but still seems far from #Bluefin or #Aurora for power users.

I'll still recommending #LinuxMint to users migrating from #Windows, though, but VanillaOS seems like a good alternative for "My first computer" approaches.

You're not forced to "upgrade" from #Windows10 anytime, but if you think it's a good opportunity to do it:

- No budget? Slap #LinuxMint, #VanillaOS, #Ubuntu or #Manjaro
- Small budget or Windows-exclusive software? Any #Windows11 will do
- Budgeted? #MacMini, #iMac or #MacBook

Thinking to replace #Debian with #VanillaOS on my #brother computer, he was able to miss two major upgrades despite I sent him all the instructions to perform the dist-upgrade...

Why do I have to set timezone and keyboard in both the installer and the first setup?
The answer is: OEM.

Why not make a non-OEM mode?
The answer is: Because after over a year of development we thought it would be better to postpone that to a later time.

Просто чутка подзаебло, что нужно ебстись на манжаре с тем что пакеты бывают либо деб либо рпм, либо пиздуй собирай, а это старое говно не собирается из-за старых библиотек, которых в репозиториях нет

Been having a few issues with Linux Mint lately, so I decided to give #VanillaOS a go today! I love their idea of an immutable distro, but I came across a very fundamental issue for myself...

ckb-next, the software I use to control my keyboard and mouse, needs write access to USB device files in /dev, which it doesn't have because the file system is immutable

Welp, pretty sure I can't use any immutable distro, like at all? Time to go distro hopping again!
