AI is coming for your Fonts, and it may not be a good thing.

Imagine an AI, that takes all the data currently available about you (a LOT) and uses that to create a font, specifically geared towards emotionally manipulating you, in whatever way the publisher chooses, be it an advertisement, a book, or whatever else you happen to read.

Monotype, who own 250,000 fonts, including some of the most popular like Helvetica, sees this as the future.

What is that character in @standupmaths‘s book „Love Traingle“? A question mark, an exclamation mark? A bird, … a plane…?

What would be the correct way to handle discretionary ligatures inside Glyphs (especially for arrow symbols)?

I'm currently doing it like this, while also having the original arrow symbols inside the typeface.

First they came for the em-dashes — soon after they revoked our right to thin spaces. Then they came for the ellipses… rumor even has it our so-called “curly” quotes (which in reality are just plain correct) are deemed uncouth.

This linocut shows a flamboyance of flamingos. The collective noun for a group of flamingos is a "Flamboyance". Isn't that perfect? And, ridiculously fun to say? Try it: "A flamboyance of flamingos." What's your favorite sans-serif font?

I'm looking for something clean and modern to use in a blog and also on (paper) letters.

(And yes, I know that traditionally you're supposed to use serif fonts on paper, but I just can't find a serif font that doesn't look … "old". If you have suggestions, let me know.)

Replies with an example screenshot are very much appreciated, so that I (and others reading this) don't have to manually look up every single one of them. ;)

I love this term of venery for puffins (who are indeed improbable looking sea birds). It’s part of my series of prints of groups of animals and the weird and wonderful collective nouns to describe them.
