European Publishers Council stays true – to the tired old trope about “copyright theft”

A few weeks ago Walled Culture explored how the leaders in the generative AI world are trying to influence the future legal norms for this field. In the face of a powerful new form of an old technology – AI itself has been around for over 50 years – those are certainly needed. Governments around the world know this too: they are grappling with the new issues that large language models […]

2livesfoundationHEFAT Safety Course | Steven Sotloff Memorial 2LIVES FoundationSteven Sotloff Annual HEFAT Training for journalists and journalism students, a SEAL-level training, will be held at University of Miami each summer for four days...

A free 1-day online #training course for #museum (etc) folk on 28/05/2025 you say?

What's the catch?

It's only available for people associated with a museum (or gallery, library, heritage site, etc) with a collection primarily based in #Scotland.

Beyond that limitation you're good to go!

The training focuses on getting involved in #MathsWeek Scotland, including case studies from museums who've done it before, presentations relating to maths content in the CfE, and a workshop from yours truly on how to spot the maths in your museum (etc).

No particular level of mathematical skill is required; just an open and creative mindset, alongside an interest in exploring the opportunities that the mathematical world has to offer your site and its stories.

The training is offered by Maths Week Scotland and National Museums Scotland working in partnership.

#Meta is making users who opted out of #AI #training opt out again, #watchdog says

According to Noyb, Meta is also requiring users who already opted out of #AItraining in 2024 to opt out again or forever lose their opportunity to keep their data out of Meta's models, as training data likely cannot be easily deleted. That's a seeming violation of the General Data Protection Regulation ( #GDPR ), Noyb alleged.

I want to ventilate on how important PPE is since it's the last stop between you and disaster

First these screencaps

As you can see wikipedia clearly states the importance of PPE on motorcycles.
Had my little cousin taken PPE into account he would have survived the crash, given the fact that he had undergone Judo where you learn how to properly break a fall ( he had not)

I'm a PPE freak and use it for everything;
When I cook I use EN388 cutlevel 5 gloves, I use ANSI Z87.1 glasses when I operate machinery like my grinders and drills, along with proper body PPE and earmufs with an NRR of -24dB. Same when I do heavy drilling / demolition / jack hammering, where you need to protect your scrotum and intestines against violent shaking of the machines.

In trucks I have full truck PPE all the way down to my underware, esp designed for driving heavy trucks with heavy loads

If I still screwup I only need to swap out that part of my PPE set with a new one, deduct what went wrong and why, and make sure I dont repeat the mistake
