IMO very relevant when editing manuscripts. I have the JPEG, but when I need to zoom in really closely into some detail of the handwriting, I always go to the #TIFF.
Luckily, the editions and library infrastructures I am working on/with always offer both. But it may be that they don't offer the same resolution, as you presumed in your question.

Argh... and I thought that Sony was bad, sneaking in some #JPEG extensions and MPF [1] segments. It's documenation is at least reachable on web-archive as a draft.
Embedding #TIFF inside that MPF segment with it's unknown structure sounded a bit worse.
And now I present next abomination called RJPEG (or Radiometric JPEG [2]), JPG with proprietary FLIR extensions. Or rather, yet, another JPEG with embedded TIFF >_<

@lindamarie Yes, that was good news. But the bad news are that they stated they cancelled it due to "safety concerns" (same fairy tale as by the Toronto International Film Festival #TIFF), and that this propaganda piece, despite not being screened publicly during the #ZFF still would remain in the contest.
