@jadi This "#OpenBSD is secure!" claim always annoyed me a lot, mainly because it doesn't tell anything: #Security in IT can only ever be defined in a context of #threat models. Without that, it's meaningless. Somewhat recently, I discovered this:

I should warn it uses some sarcasm and other confrontative language in some parts, unfortunately. But it seems to be a pretty professional analysis and assessment of (mostly) the "mitigations" OpenBSD provides in an attempt to counter "typical" attacks by at least making them harder.

I should also add that I consider this a very interesting and helpful read, and still consider OpenBSD a great project that came up with lots of great stuff (I recently used their #bcrypt code after doing some research on password hashing, for example). And I don't agree with every single criticism on that page either. I just think it's important to build assessments whether something "is secure" on a serious analytical foundation.

The #threat by #JDVance to walk away from peace talks were similar to comments last wk from Secy of #State #MarcoRubio & from #Trump, who said…if the 2 sides don’t agree quickly to a deal, “we’re just going to say, ‘You’re foolish, you’re fools, you’re horrible people, & we’re going to just take a pass.’”

Wed, Vance said under the US proposal, “We’re going to freeze the territorial lines at some level close to where they are today.” [not his call]

…Sen #DickDurbin, who is in his fifth #Senate term, said it was not an easy choice to step away from his prime perch doing battle with #Trump, whom he considers a dire #threat to #democracy. He described moments in recent days “where I thought, ‘Man, I don’t want to miss this fight.’”

“But you know,” he continued, “I have to be honest about this. There are good people in the wings, good people on the bench ready to serve, & they can fight this fight just as effectively as I can.…”

The #Trump admin’s move this month to cut off hundreds of millions of dollars in support to #Columbia — which draws roughly a fifth of its operating revenues from Washington — represented a dire #threat to the university. The govt told Columbia it would consider restarting those grants & contracts only if the university agreed to a list of demands.

Last week, it fell to Dr. Armstrong to announce that Columbia had done so.
