God knows I didn't care much for the execution of #TheAcolyte, but surely it deserved S2 to round off its story. There's lots of Star Wars stuff I love, but most of it involves Dave Filoni flying slightly under Disney's radar. I'm generally not impressed at all by their stewardship.

People just don't turn out for a TV show that has #StarWars slapped on it because of that. Either it's an event (like a movie or the first season of Mando) or it's really, really good (like #Andor). But in a TV (and movie) market that is flushed with average IP, another average IP show won't make it. And #TheAcolyte was deeply average, that's why it couldn't retain its viewership. Imagine what you could've done for the 100mn USD in animation!

Maybe, just maybe, #TheAcolyte wasn't cancelled because of "the internet" but because it wasn't that good after all. It's one of the many meh-ok #StarWars shows (TBOBF, OWK, Mando s3) that is way too conscious of itself being Star Wars. #Andor - and to a lesser degree the first two seasons of #TheMandalorian - remain the exception of live-action SW (everything in animation remains the gold standard and LFL should focus on that for TV).

I really liked the basic outline of #TheAcolyte (which I went back to) and particularly the moments that reminded me of the absolutely fantastic Russian Doll (creator Leslye Headland's incredible Netflix show). But it felt like a movie's worth of story elongated unnecessarily or at all well by Disney's contentification of everything, with way too much predictability and time killing stretching everything out.

@verge Damn, I wanna watch #TheAcolyte this reviewer watched, cause it sounds way, way better than the #Acolyte I watched!

I dunno, it wasn’t atrocious, it was just very luke-warm for the most part. Sol was cool, the twins were cool, sith master was cool, but I agree with most people when they say the writing wasn’t great. I think the parts were all there, but they didn’t coke together into a satisfying whole almost like a choclate cake that sinks in the middle when you take it out of the oven.

#TheAcolyte reframes the Star Wars saga as a story of a civilization collapsing in on itself and the Force as something that is neutral but destabilizing.

Evil finds ways to exploit imbalance. A society that tolerates the presence of evil is doomed to collapse. Arguably the Jedi covering up of the Sol incident is a step toward the downfall of the Republic.

It is truly a story of the times.

@verge I haven't watched the whole show yet because I lost interest halfway, but I personally don't feel like #TheAcolyte It's pushing Star Wars through a bright future. You just have to take a quick look at metacritic score to see that this article might be a little bit biased.
