“At first, Middle Eastern friends and colleagues would send me urgent news via Instagram or Facebook messages. I’d have to reply, apologizing that their posts were blocked on my end, replaced by the disclaimer that "People in Canada can’t see this content."”

Share Android Apps on Twitter (or anywhere else)

shkspr.mobi/blog/2010/07/share

I attended the Mobile Monday meeting "200,000 Apps - Where's Mine" last night. One thing that became clear is that apps don't do a very good job of promoting themselves. One crippling problems with most app stores is that there's no (easy) way to share an app with a friend.

Here's some basic code for an Android app which will post the URL of your app to Twitter. Stick it in a button or menu item for easy sharing.

String twitterUri = "http://m.twitter.com/?status=";String marketUri = Uri.encode("http://example.com/?q=app&title=test");Intent shareOnTwitterIntent = new Intent(Intent.ACTION_VIEW, Uri.parse(twitterUri + marketUri));startActivity(shareOnTwitterIntent);

Some important things to note.

  1. This is set to post to the mobile version of Twitter.  Your user is on a phone - don't direct them to a site that won't work on their device.
  2. The second string is URI encoded.
  3. Consider if you want to post a "market://" link.  I would advise against it.  Twitter won't render it as a link and, even if it did, 90% of users won't be able to click on it.  Make it a link that will direct desktop users to your website, mobile users to a mobile friendly site and Android users direct to the market.

Facebook also has an API for this sort of sharing.

Again, it points to the mobile site and needs to be URL encoded.

Happy sharing!

#Introduction
I've been on Mastodon for quite some time now, but under another name. I started a new account because I decided to take a step back from world news, collapse, climate change, hunger, war, fascism and inequality.
In short less doom and gloom and a little bit of positive small scale projects that might also inspire or help others.

With this account I'll focus more on my day to day life, the things I do and make.

Of course I sometime still will post concerning subjects that provoke my rage or frustration. Sorry, it's not all moonshine and roses.

Having said that, I've a broad range of subjects that have my interest, so hopefully something useful will stick with you.

From my profile text:

#Collapse aware person, born @ 320 ppm CO2, world population 3.1 billion.

Fighting depression and #sadness by doing some positive and small scale things that might help people.

Too many interests, like:

I mentioned that I used to use 4chan Pass so I could use 4chan with a VPN, mainly in the /t/ torrents board, where I would occasionally post torrents I created.

I went to renew my long expired 4chan pass since I wanted to post something there today. However, it appears CoinBase now requires you set up an account or download an app with them, you can't pay with your self-hosted Bitcoin Core wallet anymore. I hate the Antichrist.

Apparently you can use your credit card with 4chan Pass now, but I wouldn't want to do that given that I'd be using a VPN and posting in /t/.

Does anyone know any good places to share public torrents you create (other than Reddit /r/DHExchange)? I looked at 8chan.moe that's popular with users on this side of Fedi but it doesn't seem to have a torrents board.
