Hello, #AerynOS! So long, #SerpentOS.
Same project, just much, much better. Grab the latest 2025.03 ISO with GNOME 48, HDR support, Linux 6.13.8 and a bunch of updates and polishing.
For users who want to try Linux, I recommend this: Do not listen to people who tell you to use Ubuntu, Linux Mint or other variants. They all use the same complex and often breaking mechanisms, and can cause a lot of hassle.
Instead, I recommend these systems:
- #Fedora #AtomicDesktops
- #UniversalBlue #Aurora #Bluefin #Bazzite
- #HeliumOS
Looking forward to #SerpentOS too!
These systems are reliable like an Android phone, while offering you more freedom.

Serpent OS changes name to AerynOS, because of "serpent" having a negative association:

(Instead of a "negative" name, now it has a name that's hard to spell correctly, judging from how many people spell Python incorrectly lol)

Serpent OS Renamed to AerynOS Amid Funding Struggles
Before its first stable release, Serpent OS has been renamed AerynOS. Founder Ikey Doherty cites the need for a more positive identity. However, financial troubles continue to slow development. Doherty, known for Solus OS, has faced similar challenges in the past. The transition to AerynOS is set for March 17, 2025—ironically, St. Patrick’s Day, known for driving out snakes.
Why do I always pick the wrong tech battles?
Laptop:
Operating System = SerpentOS (Alpha)
Display Environment = Cosmic (Alpha)
Display Server = Wayland
KVM = Deskflow - Client
not talking to:
Desktop:
Operating System = PCLinuxOS
Desktop Environment = KDE Plasma 5
Display Server = X.Org
KVM = Deskflow - Server

SerpentOS is installed on my Razer Blade 15 laptop.
Well done @ikey & @serpentos team!
I'm rocking the Cosmic.

After about 9 years of using Linux Mint I discovered Solus in November 2016 and I was hooked. Through IRC and the forum @ikey and I became good friends.
Knowing I would be visiting Ireland with Arianna in October 2018 I arranged to meet with Ikey in Tullamore, County Offaly. Unfortunately for us, he had to move to England a few months before our visit. Arianna still visited the town and had a great time touring around.
I am still using Solus these days, on my Razer Blade 15 laptop, with PCLinuxOS on my main desktop. The team are maintaining and developing the OS really well. Budgie remains my DE for that distro.
Ikey is now working with a team on Serpent OS, a wonderful Linux project that I have been following. https://serpentos.com/ This project will soon be renamed to AerynOS.
Do yourself a favour and try out the live-USB for yourself. You will be impressed!!
This month Ikey was a guest on the YouTube show Tech Over Tea.
https://youtu.be/8HHLe2GcxNw
Of course I was interested, and now listening to the whole 2 hour episode.
Language warning: It's Ikey. There shall be some f-bombs in the conversation flow.
He remains as one of the most intelligent people I knew, and makes Linux development sound easy. Half of the time I have no idea what he is on about, but I enjoy listening to him.
