Hypereutrophication, Hydrogen Sulfide, And Environmental Injustices - Mechanisms And Knowledge Gaps At The Salton Sea

[I have long been fascinated by this ‘accidental waterbody’, from its creation all the way through the extreme pollution issues as it evaporates – and the lithium under it – a heck of a history, culturally, demographically, hydrologically, contaminants, public health, agriculturally and so much more…]

It has taken me about 12 minutes to cool down an 18650 battery which was heating up, that it was almost too warm to the touch. The battery was in the charger which clearly doesn't properly communicate with the BMS, creating a fairly dangerous situation
The battery in someone else's hand could have spontaneously combusted into flames igniting the charger and then the wood of the table it was standing on.
I have a habit of standing up, way in the depths of the night, either because I want to go training on my race machines, or because I want to physically feel how warm the batteries are that I'm charging.

Today I'm very glad that I routinely do this, because the BMS failed, a temperature sensor is obviously absent in the charger, and the chemicals would have potentially created a runaway situation because the battery was running this hot for at least a couple of hours!

The 18650 cell delivers the energy that is needed just fine it just cannot charge to 100% anymore

Of course I have marked the cell, so I can now manually remove it from the charger

My quick take on the Everything Presence Lite sensor:

shop.everythingsmart.io/produc

I've been using PIR sensors for presence detection for years now. They are inexpensive, easy to install, battery-powered so they can be placed anywhere, and reliable. The down side is that the moment you stop moving, you might as well be invisible.

Here comes Fordie. Tyre pressure monitoring says at least one of the tyres is okay. And: Fordie is on the move so we possibly won't be seeing him again.
Good luck to your other 3 tyre sensors and watch out on the road!

Btw the cmd to get only °c is

$ rtl_433 -C si

ALL YOUR SENSORS ARE BELONG TO US!

</diabolic laugh>

well at least these shitbroadcasting on 433 MHz.

These are all weather stations and affiliated outdoor sensors all blaring out data on 433.920 MHz. No idea who owns these - yet.

Next we got to change this Fahrenheit mess to Celsius. And there are other sensors around, thankfully.

This is my provisonal shack sporting the slimmest possible set up. A 5 Watt VHF /UHF handheld transceiver connected to OE5XFK in the Mountains of hell, as everybody should know meanwhile.
😎

The fat USB stick is an #rtlsdr, a tiny software defined radio attached to a laptop running #ubuntu #linux 24.04.

And now we go a-hunting, Nearfield #SIGINT starting with a humble bash proggie.
