Bizarre, nine-day #seismic signal caused by epic #landslide in #Greenland
The source of the signal was eventually traced back to a massive landslide in Greenland’s remote #DicksonFjord. A staggering volume of rock and ice, enough to fill 10,000 Olympic-sized swimming pools, plunged into the #fjord, triggering a 200-meter-high mega-tsunami and a phenomenon known as a #seiche: a wave in the icy fjord that continued to slosh back and forth, some 10,000 times over nine days.

Lake Erie gets this thing called a #Seiche. When there are high winds from the West, water sloshes East.
Currently water level's dropped 5 feet on the Western end and is 5 feet higher on the Eastern.
Biologists are counting the number and species of native mussels exposed. Almost all of them endangered. Most of them will die from the cold ( 1 degree F ).

High winds have moved the waters of Lake Erie towards Buffalo, dropping water levels by 80" and more on the Western side. Rivers feeding into the lake have dropped accordingly. This is an island in the lake near Put-In-Bay.

When the water comes back, it will be a huge wave of ice and water roaring Westward.

A bit like when the ocean leaves before the tsunami.

The Taupō District Council is asking people to stay away from the water’s edge at a popular lakeside reserve while it works out what caused about 20m of foreshore to disappear during a swarm of earthquakes this week.
...
“Other agencies are investigating the cause, but it may be a result of land slumping with a resultant wave on the lake, rather than a wave alone.
