ZanoSin is the second luminaire in a series of light fixtures in which parts of a broken pressure washer are reused. For this lamp the polypropylene cover of the pump and electric motor has been repurposed as a lampshade. The polypropylene is hand painted in flat black enamel paint, finished of with several layers of spray paint...

Concrete and up-cycled steel light 💡 🗿Sculpture “BurSong”

A loose arch shaped concrete piece comes with the lamp. It fits on the concrete platform at the switch side. By placing it (or not) in or out the platform there’s the possibility to play with the appearance of the lamp and the light and shadow play that it produces.

#TrumpLies: “You can’t take them down because the environmentalists don’t let you bury the blades.”

#FactCheck: #Wind turbine blades are designed for durability to withstand hurricane-force winds. However, the #US already has the ability to #recycle most #WindTurbine materials, acc/to the Dept of #Energy. It issued a report in Jan that found 90% of wind turbines can be recycled using existing infrastructure, while new strategies & innovative recycling methods will be needed to tackle the rest.

#Introduction
I've been on Mastodon for quite some time now, but under another name. I started a new account because I decided to take a step back from world news, collapse, climate change, hunger, war, fascism and inequality.
In short less doom and gloom and a little bit of positive small scale projects that might also inspire or help others.

With this account I'll focus more on my day to day life, the things I do and make.

Of course I sometime still will post concerning subjects that provoke my rage or frustration. Sorry, it's not all moonshine and roses.

Having said that, I've a broad range of subjects that have my interest, so hopefully something useful will stick with you.

From my profile text:

#Collapse aware person, born @ 320 ppm CO2, world population 3.1 billion.

Fighting depression and #sadness by doing some positive and small scale things that might help people.

Microsoft Windows 10 will be unsupported as of October 2025. The upgrade requirements will effectively obsolete a lot of older still performant machines OR expose their users to security vulnerabilities.

While the upgrade from Windows 10 to 11 is free, Microsoft is forcing unreasonable requirements. I go over the important ones and work around others to upgrade my living room SteamPowered gaming computer.

When I was preparing to move home, I steeled myself to have a book cull.

Twenty plus years ago, I was given two hefty volumes of music & lyrics - "Songs of the Western Isles" - unearthed during an historic furniture factory restoration. They were pretty old: no date of publication.

I donated them to my local library, in the hope they could be sold to raise funds for the public library service.

Yesterday I learned they were acquired by a folk song archive in the Hebrides. The librarian's husband delivered them - hundreds of miles! - and a ceilidh celebrated their arrival.

My friend said, "They've come home" and I was overcome with emotion.

I've always lived with #recycle but never imagined such a profound outcome.

Greenwashing the plastic?

The major supermarkets in Australia are about to re-introduce a soft plastics recycling trial.

Have a read of this article linked below from the Australia Institute. As you will read, the whole thing is a bit of a con.

Instead of re-cycling plastics it is up to us to re-fuse to use them in the first place.

Article: Soft plastic recycling is back in supermarkets!

And if you want to dig deeper: Bioplastics contain substances that are as toxic as those in ordinary plastics.

@Snoro Your assertion in this post is in addition to what's in the article. However, even with industry, global and local, being responsible for 70% of emissions, it's our personal decision and everyone we can can convince to go along—not to use those goods and services (fossil fuel and #chatAI, for example) and instead buy local when available, eat seasonal foods only to save transport, and demand green—that changes those industries and drives change for the better. No climate solution is best, they all contribute, but personal solution is what everyone can do the help collectively and ultimately makes the difference.
