A new @idealab publication came out today in Behavioral Ecology! Using the freshwater gastropod Physella acuta as a model system, we conducted a split-clutch experimental design that also controls for confounding aspects relating to risk allocation. We found that high background risk induces lower responsivity to both low-risk and high-risk chemical stimuli. This may be because cue addition also provided tactile cues that could be considered risky by high background risk snails. Taken together, these results provide partial evidence for risk allocation in the freshwater gastropod Physella acuta. Yet another paper from the @idealab was published today in Animal Behaviour! In this preregistered ( https://doi.org/10.17605/OSF.IO/RS9F4 ) study ( https://doi.org/10.1016/j.anbehav.2025.123252 ) , we show that previously frozen gastropod alarm cues (a standard but often untested practice in alarm cue research) induce comparable behavioral and morphological antipredator responses in a freshwater gastropod. Hence, continuing this convenient practice that also reduces donor animal use does not seem to have unintended consequences.

With geometry nodes I can do the UV mapping dynamically and control the scale for each object without doing it manually, if I export the model and apply the nodes I have the UV maps for each object, this is useful for #Plasticity and #CAD models, without unwrapping manually. #b3d #Blender3D #Blender

Looking for an alternative for #Shapr3D for simple #3DPrinting modelling (Shapr3D is nice, but it’s just too expensive for what it offers me, plus the whole cloud part of it). macOS or cloud, but really prefer running locally.

Tried #Onshape, but don't like it. I once tried #FreeCAD but immediately got lost. #Plasticity might be the best alternative, although it's also not very cheap (but at least it's a one-time payment, not subscription-based like Shapr3D).
