I'm glad that I have a Google Pixel 8a and not a older model. There have been many reports of Google Pixels exploding! It's horrendous. I would strongly recommend against buying anything older than the Pixel 8 series.

Disclaimer: I'm not a expert and haven't deeply researched this topic, but I considered it important enough to give everyone a warning.

The #RCS protocol https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rich_Communication_Services is available (enabled?) on most #Android phones.
I see several problems (vs SMS) and would like informed people to correct me if needed
1. it needs data access to communicate, vs SMS which only needs mobile phone access
2. all messages pass by #Google servers
3. rooted android phones (like mine with @GrapheneOS ) can't use it (I don't want!)
Please continue using SMS and Signal!

I block #adverts aggressively, so I don't normally see them at all. But, the other day, while responding to a lighthearted thread about dating sites, I asked Google how many women on dating sites were bots. Now, every time I update the apps on my phone, #Google Play Store pushes dating apps at me.

I'm a married man. I don't play away. I don't want Mrs Wife to see dating stuff on my #phone when she borrows it. This is as creepy as hell.

- Nokia 6150 (1997), którą już wcześniej pokazywałem. Do ideału potrzebuje wymiany gumki przewodzącej na wyświetlaczu (jakieś 5 zł) i może lepszej baterii. Udało się bezpiecznie zdemontować jedną ze starych, będę się do Was zwracał po pewne sugestie;

- Nokia 1100 (2004), podobno najlepiej sprzedający się model w całej historii firmy. Skromna i niezniszczalna. Tę kupiłem w Anglii za chyba 5 funtów w charity shopie.

- Nokia 5210 (2002) - jeden z pierwszych modeli o podwyższonej wytrzymałości. Oryginalne silikonowe elementy na obudowie tak się zdegradowały z czasem, że odchodzą pod paznokciem. Jednak za 9 zł nabyłem dwie skrajnie szczurowate obudowy, jedną doczyściłem do gołego plastiku, a drugą chyba zostawię w takim śmieciowym stylu. I tak znalezienie ich graniczy z cudem.

I get these highway toll scams regularly and it’d be amusing if it wasn’t so annoying as I live in the 5th largest state in the US and as far as I know there are zero toll roads in the entire state. In the big scheme of things I suppose it’s good that the scammers are dumb though…

Today, I continue my crimes against humanity by proceeding with turning my old phone into a Linux server.

The software runs great after some configuration. I’ve now installed a CalDAV server (Baïkal) alongside Sharkey, both running in Docker.

My heatsinks for Raspberry Pi-sized devices arrived today! I’m still waiting for my fans before I can start designing the new 3D-printed case. I also need to figure out how to power the fans alongside the phone.
