Italy moves to curb 'right of blood' citizenship claims.
Italy's government has announced it would tighten citizenship laws to put a stop to people going too far back in their family history to make a case for citizenship.
Currently, according to Italy's "right of blood" or "jure sanguinis" laws, people with proof of an Italian ancestor alive after 17 March 1861, when the Kingdom of Italy was proclaimed, can get nationality.

You can order a wallet sized #passport ID card that's easy to carry in a wallet or clutch. As far as I know it will only get you across the Canadian or Mexican border but it might help in a situation like this. Mine is with me all of the time and I encourage my family to carry them as well.

Wait for more clarification before seeking to make these changes.
Make sure you keep notes of any interactions including date, time, agency, specific address, names, and under what authority are they confiscating documents.
In a few days I can apply for a passport, that is recognized in 0 countries and issued by a government-in-exile. Exciting!
