Now that I've moved over here to Hachyderm, I suppose it's time for a new introduction.

I'm a mechanical engineer and cyclist that is interested in just about everything and constantly learning. My project list is forever growing, but most of it is taken care of by #FreeCAD, #octoprint, #3dPrinting, #python, #obsidian, and a variety of other #foss tools.

I'm also a #bluegrass and #ska musician, playing #guitar, #UprightBass, and #mandolin. I never said I was great, but I have a lot of fun making music.

I like to try and help people wherever I can because a lot of people have helped me over the years. The #fediverse is full of wonderful people, and I've learned so much and had such positive interactions with people from all over the world since joining in 2022.

#3DPrinting folks, I am trying to see if I can run OctoPrint and make it work via a vertual serial port connection on my #Mac, here's the issue though, if I run #socat, I can't also then run #OctoPrint in the same terminal window because only the commands for that particular program work, is there a way to fix it so that I can run both Socat and OctoPrint at the same time?

For the record, it was infatica that contacted me earlier this year about "collaborating" - in short, abusing #OctoPrint's user base for their commercial botnet. "Just put that into your TOS and that's all! Free money!"

Clarified that this is actually what they suggested, then ghosted and blocked this company. WTF.

Since then I've tried to decide what to do about this apart from mentioning it here, but tbh, I have way too much on my plate already

Oh great, a new achievement in OctoPrint!

I have finished 100 prints! I thought it already has been more but then I remembered I have to abort a lot of them because I found some issues while printing... still great!

800 lines of #nix later and I have successfully beefed up our #3dPrinting infrastructure at work @umphy with one #RaspberryPi 4:

· a https://gethomepage.dev landing page
· three fullHD webcams, one for each printer, with current filament visible
· a smart #Tasmota multiplug to remotely power off a printer in case of a problem/hangup
· #OctoPrint for the Prusa MK3S, #PrusaLink by the #PrusaMINI​s
· all password-protected and certs from #LetsEncrypt

Powiem Wam, że mając jakąś prostą drukarkę 3d, to podłączenie jej pod #OctoPrint naprawdę daje kopa. Tak nie chciało mi się latać z kartą SD/pendrive-m, i robiłem to jak już się dobrze zmobilizowałem (siedzę na stałe w innym pomieszczeniu niż drukarka). Wrzucenie tegoż zdalnie, via OctoPrint, który pokazuje status drukowania, daje znać jak skończy etc, to naprawdę niebo a ziemia :)

Ciekawostka. Mnie bardzo zaskoczyło :)

Mam drukarkę 3d. Niedrogi model, ale zaskakująco dobrze, jak na moje potrzeby, drukuje. Ale ja nie o tym.

Podłączyłem ją ostatnio do #OctoPrint-a (https://101010.pl/@msztolcman/114047822850719419). I zaczęła się dziać magia...

Ta drukarka ma spory przycik zasilania z tyłu - taki duży przełącznik, odcinający prąd. No i jakie było moje zaskoczenie, jak się okazało, że po podłączeniu OctoPrinta kabelkiem USB (i tylko USB :) ), ten przełącznik z tyłu nie *odcina* prądu, tylko nagle zaczął gadać z malinką, i nie ważne jakie ma położenie, drukarka jest włączona lub wyłączona w zależności od stanu jaki jest w OctoPrint. Wyłączę malinkę, ona mi wyłącza drukarkę. Włączę malinkę, drukarka dostaje prund. o_O

Sigh, I was thinking about buying a Bambu Labs printer some day because of all the rave reviews, the "It Just Works" comments, etc.

Now it's been enshittified with internet-of-shit, cloud bullshit.

I shall be careful to buy printers that are / can be controlled with #Octoprint, #klipper + #mainsail or some other local open source system.

Woohoo new Achievement

After installing #OctoPrint with 5 lines of config on my #NixOS server, i was greeted with a very nice guided setup wizard. I like those little details and i really appreciate that.
If my overall experience continues this way, i am happy that this tool exists.

Mein Projekt dieses Wochenende: Upgrade meines #Prusa MK4 auf die aktuelle Version MK4S und im Zuge dessen auch Installation der MMU3 für den Mehrfarbendruck.

Ich kann die Drucker von Prusa sehr empfehlen: Alles #OpenSource, extrem gute Druckqualität und super Unterstützung durch #Octoprint. Und dadurch auch Integration in #homeassistant

Octoprint läuft bei mir auf einem #raspberrypi der in einem kleinen, direkt am Drucker festgeschraubten Gehäuse untergebracht ist.

Kann man unter #linux ein #firefox Fenster so öffnen, dass es keine Auswirkung auf Historie/zuletzt geöffnete Tabs / etc hat?
Ich will nicht meine Tabs verlieren, weil ich mal ausversehen die Fenster in der falschen Reihenfolge schließe... Ich will ein Fenster auf dem zweiten Bildschirm haben mit dem ich die Webcam von #octoprint sehen kann. Am besten als Desktop Starter...
