It's been a few days now and I'm going to stop posting about #NBPy soon but I do want to stress this before I do. I've mentioned that the event is pretty special, but it's hard to succinctly articulate why in a direct way. As a way of gesturing at what I mean though, consider that this is an event where the organizer can get up *after the conference is over*, say "it would help us if some of you could pay more for your tickets" and a bunch of the audience *does that*

social.coopChristopher Neugebauer (@chrisjrn@social.coop)Today's excellent news is that after my call to action to donate to #NBPy during the weekend, we received $600 in donations, in addition to $150 received earlier in the year. That means we exceeded 2024's income. Hooray! Not everything is terrible! (Also, you can donate too, at https://nbpy.link/donate)

My favourite past #NBPy survey response was from someone who said that we weren't a serious job-relevant event because of the social & collaborative skills talks.

Obviously we all went harder on the social & collaborative skills talks, and made absolutely sure each was put into all of the context.

My @NorthBayPython #nbpy talk is now live! If you'd like to watch it, The Tangled Web We Weave: Continuing Education Through Silly Projects, you can see it here!! youtu.be/uhz6byRVyB4

Join me on a wild adventure where we talk about my silly project and ways for you to embark on your own silly projects without getting overwhelmed!

My talk “Or Else! An exploration of obscure control flow” from North Bay Python is up!

If you have even a passing interest in exploring better alternatives for structuring your code to improve readability — and especially if you enjoy unexpected stunts in the process — then you should give it a watch:

@glyph Loved your #nbpy talk! You mentioned that many libraries on PyPI aren't testing in browser so in case you hadn't seen this yet, urllib3 is being tested in Firefox and Chrome:

It's definitely not free and the config has been contributed by someone outside of our core team, definitely not straightforward to maintain. Would welcome this becoming much easier for Python projects to do!

What's on our nice-to-have list? Childcare. Financial aid. Better transport options to the ranch from Petaluma and further afield. Student outreach.

All things that have far longer lead times than when our money comes in.

I have some solutions in mind, but I wish it weren't quite so much. #NBPy

A slide from my #NBPy closing. Running a community conference for cheap is a difficult slog. Our cheaper tickets are offered as close to the margin as we can possibly afford. Unless something changes on the sponsor/donation side, this is going to be difficult to catch up.

I don’t generally post about talks while they’re happening - I like to be more present - but I’ll be writing up a review of #NBPy on the plane ride back.

It was great seeing old friends and meeting new ones. And, spoiler, every single talk was a banger. You should come next year!

Now I'm exhausted from two days of #NBPy! Glad I'm not trying to catch a flight back tonight (that was one of my accessibility things -- I never travel on days I do something). Glad my talk seemed to go well (and I wish I had like 2 more hours to talk about this stuff!). I will say this is a lovely conference, just my speed. :)
