All of the articles I see about MOOs do mention gender politics because the most significant event to happen on LambdaMOO was written up in a Village Voice article called 'A Rape in Cyberspace.'
What the Rolling Stone article about the same MOO mentions is that one of the victims switched gender on a day to day basis. Sometimes she was the name and pronouns that were attacked but sometimes he was Derrida and sometimes [they] were the other option available on that MOO, which was "neuter".
But also writing about all MOOs by writing about that one MOO is a bit like writing about fedi by writing about mastodon.social.
The MOO where I had wiz powers had many gender options and maybe a dozen active players. And like one person who may have been a cis man who only showed up occasionally to help the root user debug.
MOOs were a special kind of social community, but the specialness was only in the platform. The people and the group formations were a mirror of 90s culture. There were queer spaces in the 90s, so there were queer MOOs.
All MOO articles not about the flagship one seem to be about education platforms. Maybe nobody cares, but I feel like there is some missing history.
QR Business Cards and Moo.com

QR codes are awesome! I mean, you may think your moo mini-cards are pretty funky - but they're nothing without a QR code.
Why do you hand your card over to someone? You want the recipient to plug your contact details into their address book, right? So you give them a bit of card and then you expect them to tap away on their phone, like a primitive ape, until they've saved your number. And hope they've saved it correctly.
That's just so.... analogue... Isn't there a better way of doing things?
Yes. Yes there is. QR Codes are here and they are going to ROCK YOUR WORLD!
Introducing QR Codes
QR Codes are two dimensional barcodes which can quickly and easily be scanned by most camera phones. They're free to create, easy to use, and they look like this.Go take a look in your phone's app store - you'll find several free readers. If you can't, point your phone to GetReader.com to see what's available for your device.
QR Codes can contain many different types of data - URL, phone number, SMS, and vCard. I'm going to show you how you can integrate these into your Moo Cards.
URL
With a QR code on your Moo Card, you can point people straight to your blog.To your .tel website.Or any other site you like. Perhaps to search Twitter for your hashtag?
Phone Number
Scanning in this code will prompt your phone to give me a call. Why not leave me a message?
SMS
Want someone to scan your card and send you a message? Dead easy.
vCard
Scan this code and my address will appear in your phonebook as if by magicOne thing to note is that these QR codes are rather large - it's probably best to print them on full size cards.
Putting It All Together
Here are some of my cards. I've used free or Creative-Commons images of phones and placed the QR code inside them.
Resources
There are several free sites you can use to create your QR Codes.I recommend using QRstuff to generate these codes. You can also use Google Charts for QR Codes if you want dynamic, highly customised codes. Finally, if you want to generate QR codes on your own site, there are several free resources. I use Swetake's QRCode v0.50.
Final Tips
Here are some tips to make sure you get the most out of your QR codes.
New video! The pump in my ZD-915 desoldering station stopped working! Let's investigate and try to fix it!

As usual we've been a little quiet on social, but still making plenty of progress and getting close to finally being ready for a proper alpha phase. Here's a little preview of our most recently implemented skill called Drawing #Magic, which includes enchanted #tattoos that have different effects when touched!
Hyvin itsekkäistä syistä huolettaa somen perseytyminen myös: Runous ei hirveästi huomiota välttämättä saa, ja aika moni ihminen on Etäisyys, leikin ja Minuus | Miinuksen äärelle löytänyt nimenomaan somen, erityisesti kirjagramin kautta. Hankalalle tuntuu tästä eteenpäin. Ahdistaa.
I've always wanted to make a MUD/MOO. But I think a MUD in 2025 would go over about as well as a silent movie. There's literally no audience for it.
Human by chance, coder by choice.
During recent days, I've been coding #C++, #Swift, #MOO, #Python and #Rust. I always spend my holidays coding the weirdest little things, some of which end up being used and some not. On top of that I handle my #Linux #sysadmin stuff on a #server I host, the components of which (the server) have just been drastically upgraded. I changed everything except for the case. I would probably use Linux as my home system if there weren't some things that I haven't yet found how to do as a #blind #screenreader user on Linux. #Fedora is my main #distro. #RPM for the win!

Okay I am hearing your RESOUNDING SILENCE
so I wrote a README and I encourage you to follow Egbert's lead as a hashtag game on the mastodon, tagged with #lispmoo2jam ; in which case I will add you to the honorary jam roll and your constructions to the git, and update the current map, like I did for Egbert.

#lisp #sorta
My very own #computingRevolution. It feels like that anyway. I guess I'm just cyber-spatially organising #commonLisp code in a #moo #VR ? Is this revolutionary or passé?
Anyway it took form in the quiet ending of #autumnLispGameJam #lispGameJam .
In the article, instead of attempting to 'play my game', I make a counter object containing a common lisp closure @verbed into it that I pick up and use a few times.
I have wed MOO/reality and common lisp images.
@mdhughes do you (or anyone) have a #MOO / #MUD client on iphone or ipad? *chatter is asking for suggestions in #lambdaMOO
In my defense, it's almost Halloween, Mya is a black& white dog, & I know how to crochet.
It will definitely look better when I attach the ears!
#Moo
I plan to teach a course next semester on interactive programming (ideally in residential environments). I am looking at using Medley Interlisp, some Smalltalk (maybe Squeak?), and I'd like to use a MUD/MOO. It looks like as far as retro-MUDs, LambdaMOO is the ticket. Is anyone aware of a modern MUD engine that is _fully interactive_ like LambdaMOO is? (By which I mean, not like Evennia where you write Python _outside_ of the MUD and then load it in.)

- all things are lisp symbols in packages with plists. The plists are the data.
- There's the app ( 'core' ), player, room, item objects (~classes with command table twins)
All further changes are basically just feature objects and replacement classes in the #lisp moo or fixes.
Calling it #moonclimb
Works both in the repl and in the clim gui. The repl is surprisingly nice.
