"When I came across FAST I was like - this is the thing I've been looking for forever. This is the thing!

We did FAST - the team hated it at first. But a few months in they didn't want ever want to work any other way. They loved it! The bus numbers were gone, the dependencies were gone, the cross-learning was there. Adapting to any problem that ever came was there. It was amazing seeing that happen." - Ariel Pérez

Agile Open Northwest was loads of fun. Met some great people. Saw some familiar faces. And, finally met some folks I’ve followed for a while in person(h/t @qcoding).

Evening coding sessions were also interesting to participate in.

Good feedback on the session I did on The 5 Ps and the one Becca and I did together as The Irreverent Agilists: No Spikes in the Mosh Pit.

Two weeks to go till the big one off, two-day training event on Fluid Scaling Technology (#FaST). Bringing together Diana Larsen, James Shore, Per Beining, Quinton Quartel (the founder of FaST), Woody Zuill, and a few participants from the first experiment where FaST was born.

This will be the only time you will get this unique collection of real life stories "from the horses mouth" of FaST in the real world including the integration of FaST with #MobProgramming.

Hung out with a mob today.

Most fun I’ve had doing development in as long as I can remember. 3 minute flips, 10 minute break every 45 minutes (every 15 flips), 60 minute lunch. Day flew by.

If I could find a gig where this was the norm, would reconsider my “no development for corporate” rule.

Was actually able to help and add value despite having no clue about any of it. (More on that later.)

Any other mobs I can hop into? Let me know.

One year ago, we made a radical choice to move the @EC_NGI funded #SummerOfNix program to #mobprogramming exclusive. I'm very happy to be able to share this interview now on the Mob Mentality Show with those who experienced it.

If anyone is interested in the reasoning behind that decision, the outcome and more information about mob programming as a way to structure self-organized, autonomous teams please DM me.

Now participants are presenting #SummerofNix experience from this year. This year was #mobprogramming exclusive, a super interesting experiment. Seems it was transformative for those who participated. I'd love to share more about it.

Very nice that collaborative and sustainable projects like this can exist besides the usual programmer grinding mills. Thanks again to @EC_NGI.

The power of working as a software team:
- 3 people are working on a feature. I join them. 1 person leaves.
- We implement part of a feature, which helps me understand what's going on. I take a turn at driving and we implement another part.
- 2 people leave for lunch, since we're in different timezones. Another person joins.

Now, none of the original people are here, but the work keeps moving forward. #SoftwareTeaming #EnsembleProgramming #MobProgramming

Watched this video by Jessica Kerr about symathesy and software teams as camarata and literally had tears welling up in my eyes. Yes, it’s partly a matter of being rather raw right now, but above all it was this recognition of “oh my god, these are my people… I miss them so much.” Mind you, I’ve never met Jessica. But I just adore this beautiful, inspiring, geeky presentation of what it means to be a great team. That must have been a wonderful #mobprogramming conference. youtu.be/W9I4loWogqw

It strikes me that one answer to that question is #mobprogramming. It’s a bit counterintuitive but an important aspect of mob programming is that most of the time everyone on the team is concentrating on the same thing.

I haven’t tried this but I’ve done pair programming and it had similar value in that code reviews were no longer configured as required interruptions in the day that force you to stop your work and get into a different complex headspace. Much more time spent in flow.
