linkslice<p>Friday night and I’m cross compiling <a href="https://mastodon.bsd.cafe/tags/9front" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>9front</span></a> for little endian <a href="https://mastodon.bsd.cafe/tags/mips" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>mips</span></a> (spim) on a <a href="https://mastodon.bsd.cafe/tags/pi400" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>pi400</span></a> using vnc on an iPhone. <a href="https://mastodon.bsd.cafe/tags/partyanimal" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>partyanimal</span></a></p>
onion<p>Wonder what happened to Ralf Baechle, he was always helpful with my newbie <a href="https://mastodon.tal.org/tags/linuxmips" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>linuxmips</span></a> questions many years ago. <a href="https://mastodon.tal.org/tags/linux" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>linux</span></a> <a href="https://mastodon.tal.org/tags/mips" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>mips</span></a> <a href="https://mastodon.tal.org/tags/sgi" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>sgi</span></a> <a href="https://mastodon.tal.org/tags/sgiO2" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>sgiO2</span></a></p>
Thankful Machine<p>So, I've been really into <a href="https://oldbytes.space/tags/psxdev" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>psxdev</span></a> lately and I'm at a point where I maybe want to make a smol game.</p><p>I'm not sure about whether to try and</p><p>make an actual PS1 game (not using Psy-Q obviously) and distribute an ISO (are there any problems with this?); or</p><p>just use my knowledge to implement some of the important constraints (framebuffer size, screen res, GTE numeric formats, GPU primitives).</p><p>Or just whip up a quick and dirty fantasy console using one of my favourite archs like <a href="https://oldbytes.space/tags/m68k" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>m68k</span></a> or <a href="https://oldbytes.space/tags/mips" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>mips</span></a>? I've made a MIPS core before, so that's not a big deal.</p><p>I want to share thing, so it wouldn't matter to most people, but I also want to have fun spelunking and getting to the lowest-level possible. It feels kind of self-indulgent to care about these kinds of details.</p><p>I invite discussion!</p><p><a href="https://oldbytes.space/tags/retrogaming" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>retrogaming</span></a> <a href="https://oldbytes.space/tags/retrocomputing" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>retrocomputing</span></a> <a href="https://oldbytes.space/tags/gamedev" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>gamedev</span></a></p>
