Der Südliche Schwalbenschwanz hat ein sehr zerstückeltes Vorkommen von Südfrankreich über Italien bis in die Türkei. Eine Besonderheit der Art ist die Ruhehaltung mit geöffneten Flügeln, was sie in der bunt blühenden Garrigue aber nicht unbedingt besser auffindbar macht. In der Aktivitätsphase sind sie ununterbrochen am Flattern und setzen sich fast nie.

Just hanging out 🐝

This bumblebee was taking a bit of a rest in the colder & damper air this morning, but was soon back to work when the sun came out 💪

I'll need to check which particular species it was later on ... 🧐

Edit: perhaps a buff-tailed bumblebee, Bombus terrestris or a white-tailed bumblebee, Bombus lucorum, or maybe a cuckoo bumblebee species, Psithyrus – thanks to all for suggestions 👍

Cloudy & rainy today, very dark for natural light macrophotography 🙀

Hence the shockingly low depth of focus on this pair of pictures, although the scenery is rather stunning 🙂

I think (?) it's a soft-winged flower beetle of the Clanoptilus elegans species.

The yellow tip of the wing-casing separate it from the more common red wing-tipped Malachius bipistulatus – we have those too, but no photos so far 🤷‍♂️

Iris weevil, Mononychus punctumalbum. A photogenic beetle, for many reasons. Siberian Irises are beautiful and as soon as we saw the first specimens in the protected area, I immediately took my camera out. But these weevils walk slowly over the flower that is their home and their food, showing off from all sides. And they look funny.
The beautiful color of the iris flower is a super background for a photo of the beetle.

Here are more examples of the beautiful growth we saw on the dead trees on our backpacking trip in the wilderness earlier this week. The vertical tree with the large dark mushrooms (left pic) was a prominent figure at the stream where we camped and ate our meals. The gray mushroom on the fallen tree (top right pic) looks like a frog in disguise! 😂 😂 #FungiFriday #mushrooms #moss

And as the garden wasn't entirely free of insects, here's a bonus #BugOfTheDay.

My best guess is that it's a privet leafhopper (Fieberiella florii), but I'm open to corrections.

I only grabbed a quick picture before it, umm, hopped away, & the depth of field isn't great.

But it captures the lovely orange, white, & black striped compound eye nicely, along with texture around the head, so it's worth posting 🤷‍♂️
