Two Birkenhackers successfully made a 32x32 LED panel work with #wled on a #esp32 on Tinker Night last Wednesday. Hopefully we can increase the size of the array on the next Tinker Night!
We even used our Macintosh LCIII connected to the internet, to search how to wire it up. Since this machine is not powerful enough to display ads, we were able to work without distraction.
Here's the aftermath of my live stream on a playthrough of Uninvited, this classic adventure game for #Macintosh from 1986. #vintage #apple #retro https://youtube.com/shorts/04E8BAvPkZc?feature=share
Aaaand now I have my #Macintosh Classic running MacOS 7.0.1 with 4MB of ram connected to my Linux desktop via AppleTalk over wifi.
In order, that's AppleTalk > SCSI > ZuluSCSI > Wifi > ArchLinux > Netatalk > Bcachefs > files
I don't think I can push this much further folks
Control Panel 1.0 -

This is so freakin' cool! https://aresluna.org/frame-of-preference/
@mwichary wrote about the history of Mac settings and managed to have emulated classic Mac instances (powered by Infinite Mac) interact with the web page.

As far as I can tell, #macOS contains the only codecs for some of the '80s/'90s #Macintosh character encodings like Mac OS Inuit. None of the usual character encoding conversion libraries like libiconv seem to support these, nor can I find docs on them.
With the only codec being closed source and part of a larger product, I wonder if the means to decode them will one day be lost to history.
Today, I celebrate 20 years of Vienna, the open source macOS RSS reader.

I went ahead and created a github organization for a fresh fork of micropython, and then made a release. You can get a fresh dsk of this micropython mac port from https://github.com/m68k-micropython/micropython/releases and as @smallsco noted it works on infinitemac.org
Doing a little iterative code development in micropython on an emulated m68k mac... I might not be so happy with the loading time if a real floppy was involved, but in an emulator it's heckin' snappy.
Clearly I need to tackle the issue that you can't REALLY draw to the same window as the terminal....
Now you can witness one of the first quickdraw calls from MicroPython on mac...
Nice pick up of vintage gear today, thanks to @ben for the items and @mike for getting me in touch with Ben.
Got a couple of breadbin C64s which is something I don't own - I have a South Aussie C64 and a C64C.
The Mac SE/30 is in nice condition, no battery bomb and very little cap leakage, but has a single horizontal line on the display when you switch it on.
Also included is a 1541 floppy drive, couple of C2N tape drives and heap of software as well as a Commodore tank mouse but I can't work out if it is a C64 or Amiga one as the cable has been replaced on it. The label is missing on it.

I'm wondering... are there projects in the #retro #macintosh community to build a "modern classic Mac" (68k) using FPGA or other not-30-to-40-year-old chips?
Eg. to have a #GlobalTalk server with new components?

Never forget that on this day in 1996, at the lowest point in Apple's history, it managed to fight its way back from the brink.
Just as an added bonus video, there was also something similarly done for Mission Impossible.
It's Independence Day which means I get to re-post the Independence Day (movie) + PowerBook TV ad again! :)
Apple did some heavy product placement for this movie.
