Happy friday folks. If you’ve been job hunting and feel a stomachache every time you open LinkedIn or deal with recruiters, first, you’re not alone. Second, try to understand the incentives driving all this madness and focus on controlling your actions. At the end of the day, that’s the only thing we really have control over.

I’m not a fan of the author, but this article is worth a read (archive link because... Medium):

I delivered a keynote to Coca Cola's leadership after being invited to give them the lay of the land on Gen Z and Alpha. Instead of relying on buzzwords like "digital natives," "side hustles," or "climate activists," I focused on the complex realities these generations actually face. What emerged wasn't a simple story about screen addiction, but a generation confronting profound instability across every dimension of life.

Instead of relying on buzzwords like "digital natives," "side hustles," or "climate activists," I focused on the complex realities these generations actually face. What emerged wasn't a simple story about screen addiction, but a generation confronting profound instability across every dimension of life. This perspective directly challenges the prevailing narrative that screentime and social media are primarily responsible for youth isolation and anxiety. While Jonathan Haidt has prominently advocated this connection (and his concerns have merit) emerging research suggests this framework oversimplifies a far more messy and layered reality. Digital habits represent just one factor among many interconnected influences shaping young lives today. The data paints a stark picture: Nearly one-third of young adults aged 16-24 are 'very worried' about climate change, watching environmental crises escalate in real-time across news and social feeds. Democracy itself feels precarious to 63% of UK youth. Economic anxiety dominates their world—a recent UK study confirms cost of living as their primary concern, while the Prince's Trust NatWest Youth Index reveals half of 16-25-year-olds believe economic hardship has wounded them more deeply than the pandemic. Across the Atlantic, 61% of young Americans aged 18-34 live with constant layoff anxiety, and perhaps most telling, more than half report their lives feel devoid of meaning or purpose. THIS IS NOT ABOUT THE PHONES. When we fixate on screentime and social media, we pursue a convenient fall guy while ignoring harsh realities. Young people today navigate unprecedented challenges: economic precarity, geopolitical instability, the erosion of traditional pathways in work and education, AI's looming disruption of career prospects, and accelerating climate catastrophes. Banning phones is a superficial solution to profound problems. The evidence is unignorable and demands our attention. When multiple existential threats converge, anxiety becomes a reasonable response. By reducing these legitimate concerns to mere screentime debates, we not only miss opportunities to address root causes, we invalidate young people's justified fears. If we truly want to support the next generation, we must confront the full spectrum of pressures they face with honest, comprehensive solutions, not convenient scapegoats that let us avoid truly seeing the world we've created for them. | 86 comments on LinkedIn

Je fais une recherche @kagihq sur le terme "xkcdpunk", pour savoir si quelqu’un l’avait déjà utilisé.

Je découvre une publication Linkedin qui commence par : "I am excited to announce the publication of a new blog post that explores the transition from Offpunk to XKCDpunk. This piece delves into the significance of this shift, offering insights…"

À peine publié, mes billets de blogs sont déjà repompés. Mal.

Bravo à celleux qui soutiennent cela en restant sur #linkedin

But better language is:

“I’ll make sure you aren’t left behind.”
“We can all evolve as humans to learn.”
“Let’s conquer as a group.”
“If we can’t adapt, let’s change the rules of the game.”

We need more collective journeys, less “I’m a solopreneur building the first trillion dollar business alone.”

We’re all in this together.

The future is collaborative in a sea of ignorant hustle individualism where you must eat or be eaten at all costs.

Language from many these days when trying to educate others is riddled with fear, being cast out and being dropped off on a deserted island. A lot of this shows these people don’t care about anybody but yourself.

Language from many these days when trying to educate others is riddled with fear, being cast out and being dropped off on a deserted island. A lot of this shows these people don’t care about anybody but themselves. Be cautious of taking courses or requesting manuals from people who post stuff like: “You’re gonna be left behind.” “You will never catch up.” “You’re not hustling hard enough.” “If you don’t adapt you will die.” This shows that it’s on you the individual to make the choice or that you won’t find the future. But better language is: “I’ll make sure you aren’t left behind.” “We can all evolve as humans to learn.” “Let’s conquer as a group.” “If we can’t adapt, let’s change the rules of the game.” We need more collective journeys, less “I’m a solopreneur building the first trillion dollar business alone.” We’re all in this together. | 11 comments on LinkedIn

So I've been adding a number of outdoor photographers, athletes and climate/diversity/access advocates to my LinkedIn and within days slop AI, cyber influencer "hot takes" and general tech cringe have been replaced by beautiful alpine photography, people of all sorts being epic, kinder interactions, less US-centric and people with enviable life-long missions.

Is it the Tech sector that makes LinkedIn unbearable?

💯 do recommend de-teching and diversifying your LinkedIn.
