#journalctl

Both on my laptop (Ryzen 5 PRO 6650H, Z16 ThinkPad) and my desktop (Ryzen 9 3900X), #kernel 6.13 causes the machines to freeze after a while without reporting anything meaningful in #journalctl. The laptop freezes completely, while the desktop continues to work, but can no longer start new processes. Back to 6.12, which works perfectly on both machines. #manjaro #linux #gnome

Is systemd still considered controversial in the Linux/Unix community? I have to say I would feel a bit grumpy if I didn't have access to journalctl. I'm still ok with parsing logfiles but there is alot to like about journactl. Would like to hear your take.

#linux#unix#systemd

TIL - from journalctl(1):

> It is also possible to filter the entries by specifying an absolute file path as an argument. [...] If a file path refers to a device node, "_KERNEL_DEVICE=" matches for the kernel name of the device and for each of its ancestor devices is added to the query.

Try `sudo journalctl /dev/input/mouse0`, pretty cool!

Just admit it, you love #systemd and you can't deny it. Alright, maybe you can. In case it is part of the system(s) you manage, I started with a new cheat sheet to get more out of the journals.

It has tips on how to query it more effectively. Got other options that you use a lot? Love to hear!
