Jorge<p><a href="https://pug.ninja/tags/HomeAssisant" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>HomeAssisant</span></a> 2025.1.1 came out today. I made a VM snapshot and updated, but unfortunately my custom Airzone integration failed to start. I tried removing the HACS component and adding the built in integration, but that failed to even start the wizard to set it up.</p><p>So, I'm restoring my backup and skipping 2025.1 for now.</p>
Neil<p>I'm looking for a recommendation on a universal remote that integrates nicely with Home Assistant. I've tried sofabaton, super remote and logitech harmony. Each has flaws or lacking features.<br>Ideally the remote will have a numeric pad and a customisable touch screen.<br>Also, has anyone successfully used an old mobile phone running a Home Assistant dashboard as a remote? <a href="https://hometech.social/tags/homeassisant" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>homeassisant</span></a> <a href="https://hometech.social/tags/smarthome" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>smarthome</span></a> <a href="https://hometech.social/tags/universalremote" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>universalremote</span></a> <a href="https://hometech.social/tags/remotecontrol" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>remotecontrol</span></a></p>
Grant :verified_root:<p>Using an esp8266, 2 toggle switches, and Esphome I build a box that I can use to enable and disable different automations in home assistant. </p><p>For example I use a door sensor on my 3 year olds bedroom door to trigger an alert to my phone at night if he gets up and leaves his bedroom. The problem is if my wife or I open and close his door after we get up with him I continue to get alerts. Now I can simply toggle them off and on. </p><p><a href="https://cheeseburger.social/tags/homeassisant" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>homeassisant</span></a> <a href="https://cheeseburger.social/tags/esphome" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>esphome</span></a></p>
KI7CFO<p>Ok <a href="https://mastodon.hams.social/tags/homeassisant" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>homeassisant</span></a> pros... I have a dumb <a href="https://mastodon.hams.social/tags/sprinkler" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>sprinkler</span></a>. I have only 5 zones, 3 in use. I want a smart one with no cloud needed, but I also don't want to have to build my own with relays, etc. I have no experience with a sprinkler controller newer than 2008, so I am sure advances have been made. I do want to eventually have my own <a href="https://mastodon.hams.social/tags/WeatherStations" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>WeatherStations</span></a> (a topic for another time) so if the station could have automation possibilities, that would be great. ZWave or WiFi but if I have to get zigbee I can.</p>

rēd ⭐<p><span class="h-card"><a href="https://mastodon.social/@arstechnica" class="u-url mention" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">@<span>arstechnica</span></a></span> ...think about how outrageous this is: the piece of hardware that YOU paid for, sitting at YOUR place, connected to YOUR PAID internet service, collecting YOUR footage at YOUR place, needs an EXTERNAL cloud-paid subscription! Seriously, if they try to argue that some kind of fancy, advanced 'cloud-app' or some sort of essential, critical 'cloud-component' is needed for all of it to work, they're FOS! De-Cloud yourself, learn about on-premise solutions like <a href="https://mstdn.plus/tags/homeassisant" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>homeassisant</span></a> ! 🥊🔴</p>
Scott<p><span class="h-card"><a href="https://mastodon.world/@smarthomejunkie" class="u-url mention" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">@<span>smarthomejunkie</span></a></span> I kinda regret switching to Eufy products. Since the updates after the security issues with their cameras, the app has become pretty clunky and the integration with <a href="https://triangletoot.party/tags/HomeAssisant" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>HomeAssisant</span></a> isn't wonderful.</p>
Andy Jones-McGuire<p>So what have I been up to over the weekend. Well - </p><p>I finally found a use for my <a href="https://allthingstech.social/tags/RaspberryPi" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>RaspberryPi</span></a> and the official 7" touch screen. It is now running <a href="https://allthingstech.social/tags/WeatherFlowPiConsole" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>WeatherFlowPiConsole</span></a>. But to save electricity costs, <a href="https://allthingstech.social/tags/homeAssisant" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>homeAssisant</span></a> will send an mqtt command when <a href="https://allthingstech.social/tags/Frigate" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>Frigate</span></a> detects a person in the livingroom. Which <a href="https://allthingstech.social/tags/NodeRed" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>NodeRed</span></a> will intercept and run a script to turn the display on and start the program. 30 minutes after presence was last detected HomeAssistant will send an mqtt message to turn the display off and -</p>

It doesn't even HAVE to be from mobile.<br><br>On Yunohost I can install Jeedom, Domoticz or Home Assistant, but the learning curve is too steep for me. Can I haz some walkthrough, please? It's awful. Huge step backwards. Nasty nasty nasty.<br>So I want to go all-in with Home Assistant, but can't see how to do a few things... The main one is how to set and then act on a schedule (e.g. when central heating should run). In HomeSeer I use the EasyTrigger plugin which let's me define time periods and then actions based on them. How do I set up a schedule in HA and what's the best way?</p>
Matthew Booth<p>I get the impression <a href="https://hachyderm.io/tags/homeassisant" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>homeassisant</span></a> doesn't really want me running in a container. No add-ons feels like a deal breaker. I'm sure I could make it work, but it doesn't seem worth the effort. Going to try running Home Assistant OS in a VM instead.</p>
