WIP crocheted sea snake/dragon: I still have the sewing to do, but the dragon itself is finished. I just need to make him a part of the ocean so he can immerse :)

Each loop in the weave had a red top half and a white bottom half, doubled. 10-strand square braid (but actually 20) drawstring for a bag or pouch, maybe a sleeve? Haven't decided.
The white/red combo is traditional for this kind of weaving. The technique is medieval, if not older.

#Bookmaking on Labor Day! Still working through "Handmade Books At Home" by Chanel Ly. This is a soft- cover travel journal that combines French link stitch and glue. Love that it lays flat and the stiching looks elegant. Still don't like gluing as much and her instructions can be obtuse. Still, nice to try some new techniques and practice old ones (and doing work for me!)

Thanks for reading these posts! I took up bookbinding as a hobby to do something with my hands. I've enjoyed sharing my projects here on Mastodon and I've really appreciated all the encouragement!

I've been in a rut lately with books so I decided to go back to basics. I'm using the book "Handmade Books at Home" by Chanel Ly (Bitter Melon Bindery) to brush up - not a bad work but I sometimes need to read the instructions multiple times. I made these pamphlet stitch books using her techniques. The big difference is that I cut the pages out and rounded the corners myself.

I had this old calendar lying around with vintage travel posters. I love vintage posters and so I've saved all of the small previews from the back of the calendar for future use!

You might laugh but the idea for this book came to me in a dream. I thought about wanting to make a black notebook with a red spine and white binding with this inside panel. It was from an old calendar. I love making these books but one thing I always find tricky is how much space to give each signature. I wanted eight but had to do six. Still, I love how it turned out.

After a long time, some more bookbinding projects! More details below!

Finally, I just wanted to thank you for reading this thread - I've enjoyed learning bookbinding and have enjoyed sharing my projects here on Mastodon with you. I've really appreciated all the encouragement!

Finally, when I was making two of the books, I realized that I did not have paper big enough for the inside panel. Then I remembered that I had these old calendars from Paper Source. I had used some for covers but realized that they would be perfect for the insides!

This one is a variation of a Coptic Stitch and, though it looks really easy, it is deceptively difficult to make because you need to learn just how much tension to give the thread. It is one that I will be trying to do again when I get some new thread.

Here are two long-stitch books with different patterns. The first (the black one) is a long-stitch sketch book and the other is a criss-cross pattern. Both look awesome! The red threads on the second one at the top and bottom were actually to cover up the fact that I made the book too long for the paper and only realized after making the holes

Here was a Belgian Secret Stitch sketchbook I made for my spouse. I wanted to try making another one of these books because they were so much fun. I also experimented in using less sketch paper in each signature (bundle of paper) and it worked much better. I did the same on the smaller sketch book in the next post.

Some new bookmaking projects! Got to try out some of the new books that I learned in my class on my own. More details in the thread below!
