There may be people who remember a little video I made with the brilliant Ed Prosser for the Royal Institution in the run up to the Christmas Lectures. In that video is showed off some #glassblowing spectacles made of didymium glass. #chemistry #elements https://youtu.be/6Ul8CmUkO4E 1/n

Trying to figure out if the following would be feasible using preindustrial techniques:
1. create a small, trasparent glass sphere, then etch markings on the surface
2. coat the sphere with another layer of glass without distorting the markings (e.g. by using glass with a lower melting point or filling the etch marks with, say quartz dust)
3. etch this new surface with similar markings
4. repeat 2 & 3 as needed to build layers of markings.
Anyone?
Starting easy: a glass icicle. Not terribly even, but not bad for not having done this in about 6 years or so. #glassblowing
Set up a new tool: a flameworking torch (since I can't really set up a furnace and hot shop in my garage). Now to find out just how rusty my flameworking skills are. #glassblowing
In the way back times I took a glass blowing class in college. I loved being in that glass hut in the freezing NH winter. I wasn’t great at glass blowing. The potential burns were a deterrent for me. But I love this little paperweight of a mini vase for all the wonder I experienced watching everyone blow glass. #ArtAdventCalendar #glassart #GlassBlowing
