Mark Stosberg<p>The Framework 16 laptop detects when it's booted partially assembled. It boots into a special mode to walk you through completing the assembly. The screen updates to reflect your progress and prompt the next step. This requires no tools to complete. Impressive! Watch:</p><p><span class="h-card" translate="no"><a href="https://fosstodon.org/@frameworkcomputer" class="u-url mention" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">@<span>frameworkcomputer</span></a></span></p><p><a href="https://urbanists.social/tags/Framework" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>Framework</span></a> <a href="https://urbanists.social/tags/FrameworkLaptop" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>FrameworkLaptop</span></a> <a href="https://urbanists.social/tags/Framework16" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>Framework16</span></a> <a href="https://urbanists.social/tags/Linux" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>Linux</span></a> <a href="https://urbanists.social/tags/Video" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>Video</span></a></p>
DJGummikuh<p>Wtf today my <a href="https://mastodon.social/tags/Framework16" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>Framework16</span></a> simply froze its graphics. It does so two times. The first time I can get it unstuck by changing to a TTY with Ctrl+Alt+F2 and then back, but the second time I can only reboot. Sound and Mousepointer are still working, but I can't click anything and videos are not updating any longer. WTF is going on here?</p>
Jacen Sekai<p>It's been about a year since I got my <a href="https://mastodon.jacen.moe/tags/Framework16" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>Framework16</span></a> laptop. Dominik<p>Anyone here who uses the <a href="https://phpc.social/tags/Framework16" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>Framework16</span></a> laptop? Do you recommend it as a work laptop? Are there any downsides? DJGummikuh<p>Is there anyone here with a <a href="https://mastodon.social/tags/Framework16" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>Framework16</span></a> running linux that can run my thermal performance benchmark script from <a href="https://www.djgummikuh.de/2025/01/05/cpu-performance-tests/" rel="nofollow noopener" translate="no" target="_blank"><span class="invisible">https://www.</span><span class="ellipsis">djgummikuh.de/2025/01/05/cpu-p</span><span class="invisible">erformance-tests/</span></a> and send me the results? If you then plugged it out to take it with you, it'll turn itself on despite the lid being closed and you probably wouldn't notice.<br>Same with plugging it in while the lid is closed but that isn't quite as bad as the battery would at least be charging then. (Still not ideal as the trapped heat could damage the display.)</p><p>Quite a simple causal link and easy to avoid if you know about it but nasty if you don't.</p><p>Could this be changed <span class="h-card" translate="no"><a href="https://fosstodon.org/@frameworkcomputer" class="u-url mention" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">@<span>frameworkcomputer</span></a></span>? A laptop should never under any condition turn itself on while the lid is closed.</p><p>It should arguably not even turn itself on when the lid is open but that's not nearly as bad as you'd at least notice that it did this by the display and power indicator turning on. You'd also ordinarily close the lid to transport the latpop which should cause the OS to suspend it again; preventing you finding a hot and empty laptop in your bag when you arrive.</p><p>There's no such excuse when the lid is closed though.</p><p><a href="https://darmstadt.social/tags/framework" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>framework</span></a> <a href="https://darmstadt.social/tags/framework16" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>framework16</span></a> <a href="https://darmstadt.social/tags/suspend" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>suspend</span></a> <a href="https://darmstadt.social/tags/FrameworkLaptop" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>FrameworkLaptop</span></a> <a href="https://darmstadt.social/tags/s2idle" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>s2idle</span></a> <a href="https://darmstadt.social/tags/SuspendToRAM" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>SuspendToRAM</span></a></p>

Dave<p>I was up way too late last night playing Cyberpunk 2077 on my new <a href="https://alpha.polymaths.social/tags/framework16" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>Framework16</span></a> laptop. I had it hooked up to my 1440 monitor and it looked GORGEOUS. I was pushing almost 80 fps as well, which was great. Yes, the fans on the GPU got loud, but I work in IT. I'm used to loud machines.</p>
Dave<p>Well, my <a href="https://alpha.polymaths.social/tags/framework16" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>Framework16</span></a> handles Cyberpunk 2077 extremely well. And Fallout 4...and Fortnite....and Call of Duty....</p>
