Bobbi Towers
Why did I make a Lisp interpreter? It just started out as a crazy thought. I had just written a language plugin for Codemirror 6 to be used on the #Exercism platform, which featured interactive evaluation using SCI, the Small Clojure Interpreter. I compiled it to JavaScript using shadow-cljs, and well, I didn't like that it added around 750Kb to the bundle size (since we want it to be accessible to folks all around the world with limited internet), and I also didn't like that the resulting JavaScript was incomprehensible, being compiled using Google Closure. So it just started out as a wild idea, could I write my own Clojure interpreter in JavaScript that was just compatible enough to teach Clojure?

This limitation in scope is what made it realistic, since it would not need to be fast, would not need proper namespaces, or advanced features like types, records, multimethods or protocols, since it would never be meant for writing actual software. Think Dr. Racket and the BSL (Beginning Student Language), that's what I wanted, a teaching language, based on a subset of Clojure.

Most of the pedagogical value, however, was actually wrapped up in the process of making the Lisp, so what I would like to do is try to gather up some momentum around that. What I'm thinking, is a series of videos (or even livestreams, or both) where I would actually go through the process of building the thing.

Bobbi Towers
I spent about 3 months building a Lisp interpreter and coding environment for the web. This seems like a good time to share it because the initial storm of constant work has settled down and I'm quite happy with it. The last thing I added was autocomplete and function docs, which were rather trivial since the entire language is running in the same process as the editor.

I learned a lot of #Clojure. And a lot of JavaScript. I have a test suite made up of all the problems from 4clojure and #Exercism, and 165 out of 185 of them are passing.

https://bobbicodes.codeberg.page/bobbi-lisp/

Repo: https://codeberg.org/bobbicodes/bobbi-lisp

Projects I'm now building with it:

SVG path library: https://codeberg.org/bobbicodes/bobbi-lisp-svg
Music sequencer and NES audio emulator: https://codeberg.org/bobbicodes/bobbi-lisp-audio

The real test will be whether I can use it to create an entry in the upcoming Lisp game jam, which is why I'm now focusing on music and graphics. However, if I'm not successful, it will likely be more due to my lack of design skills than the inadequacy of my Lisp.
