There's clearly a linear feature made of rocks crossing the sand that (to me) looks similar to the more eroded section of the southern end and which seems to line up with it, but there were no definitive signs that this is it. Any archaeologists/historians want to weigh in on whether this linear feature is, indeed, the northern end of the Roman ford?
I spent this afternoon looking for the remains of a Roman ford across the Clyde at Dumbuck, just west of Glasgow. The photo on the left is the better preserved southern portion on the Renfrewshire side which I visited a couple of years ago. The two photos on the right from today from around Milton Island on the northern side.

Looking down the Clyde on a rather wonderful sunny Sunday morning on the beach at Dumbarton Rock to the west of Glasgow.
Dumbarton Rock, a 330 million year old volcanic plug on the northern edge of the Clyde to the west of Glasgow that is home to Dumbarton Castle. A military stronghold for many centuries, it was to here that Mary, Queen of Scots was heading after her escape from Lochleven Castle in 1568 when she was intercepted by the Earl of Moray and was forced to fight the Battle of Langside (now on the Southside of Glasgow).

A Scots Baronial style tenement on the corner of College Street and Station Road in Dumbarton. Built in 1898, it was designed by the local architect J.M. Crawford.
Bowling Harbour, at the western end of the Forth and Clyde Canal where it meets the River Clyde near Dumbarton. Its story began with the opening of the canal in 1790 and it has seen a real renaissance in recent times. Throughout the 1800s and early 1900s, Glasgow and its surrounding communities were home to a large and diverse range of brickworks, each of which stamped their own mark on their products. This sample from a small area of the foreshore below Dumbarton Castle gives you a fair idea of this diversity.
