Bad news: we have to leave the spot we have been living in for a while, soon soon.

Good news: we have been offered help with transport to state that we more had in mind.

Now for making Pixelix available on iOS we have to invest almost all of our profits we ever made from the app into hardware equipment, meaning we got not much back for our hard work. That is not really sustainable. We are currently still experimenting on how to make open source software development sustainable but as we figured that is a widespread problem which is not so easy to solve. (4/4) ->

Now you can say we are already earning some money because we sell Pixelix for 2€ on Google Play Store. And that's true, but the app is also available completely free on F-Droid and Github, which means the vast majority is getting it from there. (3/4) ->

Management of #donations via #foss ?
I support various projects mostly regularly for better planning. Obviously money is limited and I am too lazy to change every now and then (which impacts also planning). Tiny amounts from a lot of people increase costs on project side
What about a software service that manages, bundles and cumulates this: select X projects, Y €. Better distributed, steadier, higher single transfer could compensate overhead costs.
What do you think? Already existing?

As a former co-admin of an instance, I know how important it is to get support from the community and the members. Server costs are not cheap for running Mastodon instances, or any Fediverse projects for that matter.

I've been a firm believer that if we can help our admins and even our moderators of our instances that we should do so. Even if it's just a few bucks as a one-time donation or a monthly donation if you can afford it.

With that said, I have elected to setup a monthly donation via Ko-Fi to infosec.exchange to help @jerry cover the costs of running all of the infosec.exchange stuff that he's running and maintaining for all of us.

Again, I encourage everyone to do the same if you can for your instance to help alleviate those charges each month that they have to deal with.

I'm getting tired of pompous "initiatives", "foundations", and "movements" trying to funnel folks (or their money) from the #Fediverse into #BlueSky, after their attempts at opening the gates for #Meta's #Threads were rewarded by #Zuckerberg with another "dumb fucks", straight to their faces.

Here's relieving news: you don't need to be granted absolution. Just dwell BlueSky and be happy.

No need to pretend you were anti-​#billionaire revolutionaries now, after kissing their rings didn't end well, for you.

No need to pretend you were interested in #decentralization, sort of, maybe.

No need to ask for #donations so you can underpin your self-delusion by throwing millions of dollars at meaningless, pro-forma infrastructure elements.

No need for your Potemkin villages showcasing "founders" and "boards", as if the same old handful of serial proselytizers were actually spearheading millions.
