I agree with Ricky that SMS *improves* security under low risk conditions, and is probably the next best alternative for people that own a fixed line telephone (but not a smartphone) or those who find password managers (instead of TOTP apps) too complicated to use.

In the Netherlands, with a population approaching 18 million, there are 4+ million people (not only elderly) with insufficient "digital" (or reading) capabilities to be able cope with the rapidly digitalizing Dutch society (IMO someone should firmly step on the breaks). Those people are more and more getting discriminated.

The latter page lies "just use 2FA, it doubles your security" but does not inform the reader of any new risks, neither what is preferable (SMS vs TOTP vs number matching vs...), nor which TOTP app are safe to use.

I HATE this, IMO it is misleading marketing speak (propaganda?) instead of useful information.

I like passkeys, but they still suffer from some unnecessary childhood diseases (Android, but Apple too!) that need to be fixed ASAP.

Hence I believe that using a password manager that checks the domain name is the current best practice.
