Honestly been loving working in #KDE in #Linux much more than Gnome.

And the Kate editor has become quite capable and helpful - even IDE-ish!

Using #Debian stable KDE, and #Kubuntu on different workstations and the differences are minor for use.

Wayland still seems to be hot pile, but under X11 it's great.

I imagine their hubris was similar to the systemd people. It's been YEARS.

Still though, KDE - 👍

Still playing around with #OpenBSD 3.0. OpenBSD themselves sadly don't maintain an archive of historic packages, but I've been surprised how much luck I've had finding source packages for the ports collection. Sometimes it's in the Wayback Machine, sometimes it's in an old FTP site dump, and a few of them I've been able to find in #Debian 's archive. So far there's only been one thing I couldn't find, but I was able to manually build a suitable substitute in that case.

I upgraded my lenovo #T490 from #NixOS 24.11 to 25.05 within an hour or so.

I've lost "xdu" (custom package doesn't compile anymore), had to manually download a closed source binary once again, had to manually replace "okular" with "kdePackages.okular" and remove "services.locate.localuser".

The upgrade went somewhat fine. Didn't find any issues so far besides the usual Python annoyances (manual re-creation of all venv and so forth).

However, I'm looking forward to switching back to #Debian in a few months. My Debian upgrades didn't require that much time and effort AFAIR and #Python is working in a normal way.

Blog post: What Guix could offer in computational medical environments?

French national agency for secure drug and medicine (ANSM) requires for a medical device to have unambiguous identifications:

1. reference of the product
2. reference of the maker
3. serial number

Well, through my lenses applied to software, it reads:

1. #SoftwareHeritage identifier (#SWHID)
2. #Guix

and 3. is redundant. 😁

Well, a quick summary of a 30min talk I gave past week.

Thanks my previous colleague Sam from APHP to give me the opportunity to brainstorm on this topic. 🤩
