Cop Killer - #BodyCount

Fab live coverage from 1992.
When talking about #controversial #music, there are few more shining examples than #CopKiller. Recorded by #IceT’s rock group Body Count, “Cop Killer” is a heated #song about a victim of #PoliceBrutality who violently takes matters into his own hands. The song faced criticism from #LawEnforcement agencies, the Parents Music Resource Center #PMRC, President #GeorgeHWBush and the public in general. Some people responded through #protests and #boycotts of any company associated with the distribution of the record. This caused sales to skyrocket, but also prompted certain stores to take the album off their shelves. Some countries, such as #NewZealand, attempted to have the song and the #rap group itself completely #banned. Stockholders threatened to pull out from #WarnerBrosRecords and executives received #DeathThreats. While Ice-T stood by his work, stating that it was a #ProtestSong meant to reflect hateful emotions rather than encourage violence, he subsequently decided to recall the album, removing the trouble-making song upon re-release.

@sellathechemist @quantensalat @Peternimmo Kelvin was good at self-promotion, plus he had powerful acolytes like Guthrie Tait who promoted him aggressively. Rankine was maybe more creative than Kelvin, but less of a mathematician, and definitely more modest. Trying to summarise people in a couple of sentences is

Enter the AI cavalry: ChatGPT, Bing Copilot, Gemini – they've all become my trusty sidekicks.
Now I can actually keep up with the workload, even as my agency keeps piling on new clients (without a raise, naturally) and refuses to hire more staff.
Bottom line: AI is making my job a whole lot easier. Sorry, not sorry.

"The use of #AI in #journalism has proved #controversial as well.
"Tech website CNET has reportedly been using an AI tool to generate articles that are later scanned by human editors for accuracy before publication. The website acknowledged in January that the program had some limitations...
"In one example, CNET was forced to issue major corrections to an explainer article on compound interest that contained a number of simple errors."
