#Palestine / The State of Palestine condemns Israeli assault on a diplomatic delegation in Jenin while they were conducting an investigation into the humanitarian conditions there
Palestine’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs condemned an Israeli attack on a diplomatic delegation in Jenin, as a violation of international law and the 1961 Vienna Convention on Diplomatic Relations. The delegation was conducting an official mission to assess humanitarian conditions, and the assault targeted accredited diplomats, who are protected under international law. The Ministry demanded accountability for #Israel’s actions and urged the international community to address the aggression against Palestinian civilians and diplomatic personnel.

Haaretz reports that Israeli forces fired toward a delegation of 25 ambassadors and diplomats who were visiting the Jenin refugee camp on Wednesday. The visit was organized by the Palestinian Authority and included representatives from 31 countries, including #Italy, #Canada, #Egypt, #Jordan, and #Britain. The diplomatic mission had coordinated their visit with the Israeli military.
A diplomat who participated in the tour described that the group toured two points, with the second being near a metal gate outside the refugee camp. Eyewitnesses reported that a total of seven warning shots were fired toward the delegation members.
IDF claim that their initial investigation indicated that members of the delegation deviated from the coordinated route and entered an area where they were not permitted to be, which led to warning shots being fired.
